I liked the subtle mind games and in your face celebrations between Nadal/Rosol (it's quite similar to Nadal/Soderling).

I'm glad someone finally did it so that the commentators should stop making the same "maybe someone should just knock down one of his bottles" joke.

BS, somebody did it before. I just cannot remember who yet...

"There's a Spaniard who can play football." Priceless.

But Rosol also served second in the first set. I didn't see it, but Rosol must have won the toss and elected to receive. Mind games. Why not?

Yeah, everyone knows Nadal hates to serve first but he actually came out serving well and it took till 2-2 before Rosol stopped hitting errors. Making him serve first is a good idea though since he's known to not like to do that.

Also for all the silliness from Nadal fans on the bottle incident Broken posted, Rosol was extremely gracious at the end of the match with the handshake. Such gem comments on that youtube link as "Wow I did not see this side of Rosol, that was unnecessary" and "Rosol is a piece of sh1t!! " No doubt the same people forgot Nadal bumping into Rosol in 2012 when things weren't going his way. Very selective memories.

What a great battle from Nadal after losing the first set and a break in the second set. He showed his mental fortitude in this match.

Also, I give Rosol full credit. He it took to Nadal and did not back down until the very end.

Now, Nadal would not have to face a big hitter until the Quarterfinals. I hope he plays a lot better after surviving those first two rounds. This was his third straight Grand Slam match in which he lost the first set. Luckily, he won all three matches in four sets. Also, this year, he has now lost the first set in 6 out of the 16 matches. Last year, he only lost the first set four times. Clearly, he needs to start his matches a lot better if he wants to win this title.

Also, great opportunity for both Nick Kygrios and Jiri Vesely to reach their first Round of 16 in a Slam. It will be interesting to see if nerves will play in their match.

There is a sense in which it's similar to Soderling/Nadal. Soderling was a bit of a bete noire, and so was Rosol, at Wimbledon. Nadal got past Soderling in RG '11 in the QFs, and I think that steeled him for the rest of the tournament. Likewise, I hope, getting past Rosol will give Rafa more than the proscribed confidence going forward, beyond just a second round victory.

I think these first two round matches will give him a lot of confidence going forward. You could tell by his post match reactions that he really wants to do well in Wimbledon this year. Now, let's hope he can continue this inspired play throughout the tournament!

Well I just find it more than a little pathetic that someone supposedly as great as Nadal even takes notice of such "also-rans;" giving them status above all others who really challenge him! Very sad and pathetic! :nono :puzzled :laydownlaughing

I wish they put another match on Center Court now. There is definitely enough time to complete one more match there...

I think they could get through a women's match, but not necessarily the men. There's a chance it would have to be held over anyway, given when they could get on court, and when Wimbledon is mandated to stop play due to local laws.

Andy was given the Freedom of Merton a couple of days ago. It is the borough that covers Wimbledon. I think Andy can overrule that law now. ;)

I'm pretty sure he's the third player to do it. It seems a rather childish thing to do.

BTW the commentators on British TV say the exact same thing. It gets tedious.

Good post as always.

It's easy to point out the insufferable attitude of Nadal and his sycophants; on one hand talking about "he's the GOAT," but on the other his court demeanor is the worst with stalling, taking on coaching from the stands, calling of trainers, challenging every call against him and being wrong, and of course allowing players not in his class taking him to the limit! His sense of entitlement has infuriated me since he was a teenager! Only Nole has been able to halfway tame him, initially using his tactics against him, now outright "outhitting" him for the most part! :clap :laydownlaughing

Just think about how much of your own propaganda, and that of others, that you're buying. Who are Nadal's 'sycophants', and what do you mean by that? And then this endless string of accusation, which is hard to defend against, for just being a litany, however nonsensical. However, I will try.

Most Rafa fans have not claimed him to the be GOAT, nor have they even admitted that there is such thing.

I have problems with all of your points above, but one especially is this: "Challenging every call against him and being wrong." Are you thinking of Federer? Nadal is actually really good at the challenge system.

I'm not at all sure what you mean about having trouble with players "not in his class." Nadal always claims to take every opponent seriously, which would seem to be right. And people tease him for it. Why?

I have no idea what you mean about his "sense of entitlement" since he was a teenager, and I have a hard time believing that that put you off of him when he was 16-19, if you were even paying that much attention to him, but I'm willing to hear you out.

I also believe that we've established that lots of top players have called for the trainer at dodgy moments, so I don't see how that's a particular Nadal sin.

Have I addressed all your points?
