Astonishing the way that Monfils took apart the missile. :clap

National pressure! Why surprised? He may never win it even though he's come a long way with McEnroe!
Nah.. the Missile played well. Monfils played out of this world.. next he has to face Djoker..Its time for him to defeat the Serbian

Monfill seems to play more seriously, the question is how long he will do it

What got into Monfils????? Milos was just laughing as he was leaving the court, like "What do you do against THAT?"

Maybe he is discovered the secret to Novak's gluten free diet

There is no reason why Grigor shouldn't be there with Kei and Milos as the best of their generation and regulars in the top 10.

I will argue with you on this. Grigor is not having in general a good winning strategy, he is getting engaged in relentless exchanges and with a defensive position, way behind the baseline, and usually comes out on the losing end, because he does not trust his abilities and goes for too much.
His BH is very inconsistent. Not reliable, like today and it was well exposed by Kei.
Definitely not in the Wawrinka, or Gasquet BH class. His serve is also on and off. When it is off, his second serve is a liability.
I think his game overall should be good for a 11-20 ranked position, if his mental aspect would be straightened out, but without addressing some of the technical and tactical minuses, I think he will end up way short of expectations.

Maybe the nickname baby Fed should be reserved only for Roger and Mirka children not Grigor.:nono

After I had taken Wawrinka off the "gutless" list, he does this today in the semi; drops the 1st set after a huge lead and rolls over in the 2nd! :nono :cover

He's not gutless, he's just consistently inconsistent and plays about 3 great matches every 10 years.

This is always a bit of irony watching these two. I think Gael was the better player when they were juniors. However these two met at the US open about 12 years ago. Monfils was dominating the match, Novak started experiencing cramps.. The rules were difference then and he was given a medical time out that lasted over 20 minutes.. Totally put the freeze on Monfils momentum and djoker won the match. Monfils has never lived up to his potential ..I think someone may have reminded him of this. I got Monfils finally getting off the snide today.

Who hasn't? OTTH Dimitrov, Simon, Wawrinka, Tsonga, Murray, Isner, Querrey, Kei, Milos, and any number of other players who have all the shots, but can't complete the deal when it counts have disappointed me! :puzzled :nono  :cover

Novak gets broken in the third game. He should have been broken in the first itself. But, he is trying to eke out a win without playing well.

Djoker breaks back and rights the ship. He also held easily after that unlike his previous two service games.

He's been doing that all season as far as I'm concerned! He hasn't played "lights out' tennis since he annihilated Nadal in Qatar! He's been playing "just well enough to get by," but has had more than a few close calls, being taken to the limit; esp. in Masters 1000 this season! :nono  :cover
