Thiem has a too busy schedule, now he's washed and injured
he has to play less and select carefully his tourneys

Article with notes from Thiem's conference press:

http://www.vavel.com/en-us/tennis-usa/674380-dominic-thiem-discusses-injury-after-rogers-cup-retirement.html

He was going to skip the Olympics "to rest" by going to Los Cabos instead to play in yet another 250 event???? Just kill me now:eyepop:speechless:

Why is Djoke playing here? The gold medal is his if he shows up in Rio healthy. Bad decision.

I am curious why Harridon is winning all of a sudden. Anyone have an opinion?

Very happy to see Monfils do so well.

That's been told to young players for as long as I can remember! They think they have unlimited energy until they "hit that wall" and learn they need to schedule more prudently! It only hurts if you're winning early like Thiem; "also-rans" can play every week, but may never get the experience needed to get over the hump like the present elite players! :nono  :dodgy:

Monfils really is playing solid tennis..Good match vs Obi Wan (Goffin) I think he will take out the Canadian missile the next round.

I will say something I have not said in a very long time.
Today, I was very impressed by Grigor's game, his ROS was unbelievable, and his serve was also very solid. He takes down Karlovic, without relying on TB, which is rare.
I am not going to say anything else, because I might jinx him.

I was going to write something extremely similar :). First time in a long time Grigor impressed.

Based on the form I have seen this week, two good matches stand out today in the QF:
Nishikori - Dimitrov
Raonic - Monfils

There is no reason why Grigor shouldn't be there with Kei and Milos as the best of their generation and regulars in the top 10.

Actually, one of the reasons I was so impressed with Shapo is that Grigor looked pretty good, but Shapo still hung in there.

I will argue with you on this. Grigor is not having in general a good winning strategy, he is getting engaged in relentless exchanges and with a defensive position, way behind the baseline, and usually comes out on the losing end, because he does not trust his abilities and goes for too much.
His BH is very inconsistent. Not reliable, like today and it was well exposed by Kei.
Definitely not in the Wawrinka, or Gasquet BH class. His serve is also on and off. When it is off, his second serve is a liability.
I think his game overall should be good for a 11-20 ranked position, if his mental aspect would be straightened out, but without addressing some of the technical and tactical minuses, I think he will end up way short of expectations.

Berdych's wife should make him slept on the floor tonight. up 5-2 then he goes up 3-6 on Djoker who is playing horrible in a tiebreaker and don't win another point. That guy is a huge head case.

What have I been saying about the "also rans" of this era? GUTLESS; true head-cases that have all the ability in the world and physically comparable, but can't get out of their own way to finish off an elite player! Berdych is on the same list with Ferrer, Tsonga, Cilic, and a few other as consistent as can be, but it does them no good! I posted this yesterday on my blog:

It's 1 of the reason players like Berdych, Ferrer, Tsonga, Cilic, Del Po, & so many others who NEVER change their approach; staying within their comfort zone only made it easier for Roger, Rafa, & Nole to own them "lock, stock, & barrel! Wawrinka broke out of that group & sneaked a couple majors & Masters! Btw the rest Cilic & Del Po have lone Slams @ USO & they share a handful of Masters! Andy has more in him than that super-defensive game, pretty much just running everything down & waiting for his op to keel over! I've seen him volley, but he still rather let the ball bounce than to take it out of the air & attack to finish pts off quicker! Silly after so many chances so if he's not even close to Becker w/ more of a game, it's his own fault! :nono :cover

Monfils wins 6-4, 6-4. Simply too good. If Nole does not raise his level, he will also be in trouble.
