Denis Shapovalov won. He is undoubtedly a very talented young player and has a bright future.
His serve is a weapon, he can do lots of things with it, and if he will increase his first serve %, will be a very tough player to break.
He has lots of things to work on still, BH technique is not that good and movement especially, ROS, etc.
What was disturbing to me, was that Kyrgios was disengaged, he did not want to play nor win.
He did not even try to mask very well that he is tanking the match, as he made lod comments before the match "I don't want to be here", and during the match "I am going home tonight".
His DF count says it all, most of his shots were casual, like an afternoon practice with a buddy.

Congrats to Shapovalov! :clap

I believe this is just the second tour level match for Shap. So, It is a very good win even if it is against someone who would rather play Baseketball. The trouble with Nick is that if you send him to basketball court, I am sure he would say that he would rather play tennis. It is attitude problem and not sport selection problem. In no sport (or for that matter in any job of any kind), one would like all the aspects. It is the ability to persevere and do even the things that you may hate is the only route to success. Nick is seriously missing on attitude. Unless his attitude changes, I do not think of him as a slam contender.

But, I would not write him off. He is too young and has enough time to change his attitude.

It is not about writing him off, but what do you expect now from such a plyer who makes a trip across the pond in the last moment (he has arrived the night before, without playing in 3 weeks), just to give away a match and could not have waited to go home again?
Apparently he said at Wimbledon that he was tired by the time of the second week, so it seems his heart is not really in it anymore.
And trust me, his attitude will not change anytime soon.

I was able to watch some of Shapo-Nicko at work. The kid definitely has game and also a whole lot of improving to do. Nick was the definition of a pro player that I hate! Disinterested, not moving...like Monfils at his worst.
Still, nice scalp for the kid. Well done.

Wow! Great to see Shapo pull it off - this kid just turned 17, was born in 1999!

Zverev not in a good mood today. He threw twice his racquet already and he got away without a penalty point, because the umpire closed his eyes at the first one, gave him a warning only at the second instance.

Lucky Shap gets Grigor, another guy in need of a shrink, in the next round. Expect another win for Shap.

Here's a crazy thought: no player born 1988 or later has won a Masters title. Cilic and del Potro were born in 1988 and won Slams, but no Masters.

Novak lost the opener in doubles. But, wins the opener in singles. I did not watch either one of them.
Can anyone who watched provide info on whether the alleged "tennis elbow" is affecting him or not.

After two rounds, only one Canadian left.

Since Roddick, that can be the case here in "The States" for our Nat's Championship! If not for the Williams', it would have been the same thing with the ladies! We don't have a lot of reliable players; run of the mill in Isner, Querrey, Harrison, Young, Johnson, and a couple newbies like Bjorn, Taylor, and Sock! Still have a ways to go! The ladies seem to be ahead of the men with Keyes and Stephens! :nono

Nole's barely holding on; playing just well enough to win! I keep saying, he hasn't annihilated anyone since Nadal in Qatar! Murray was scary good at the FO, but Nole got the measure and tone of the match and held him off! He's been losing sets and being taken to the limit having to survive TB's and other close calls! :nono :puzzled :cover
