britbox did you know the Zeppelin song 'Good times, Bad Times' i included in the quiz ?
Don't be daft...everyone knows that song. And Midnight Oil did very well here in the States. They must have...it was not a time I was paying attention to music, and I know who they are.

That's if you're a fan, Moxie, LOL... Thanks for correcting me regarding Midnight Oil. It's a real Pity that Skyhooks or Cold Chisel did not fare well, but.

Bee Gees... Makers of Anthems

Who else we got from Oz...

Men at Work, one hit wonders maybe, but boy was that a hit.

Crowded House, were pretty big, at least in the UK, not sure about the States.

Although I guess Crowded House were New Zealand/Australia hybrids and the Bee Gees Brit/Aussie hybrids.

Bruce Springsteen - "I'd just like to say one thing....I appreciate it....and it's a hard night to come out and play tonight when so much's been lost....the first record...the first record that I ever learned was a record called 'Twist and Shout' (cheers).....and if it wasn't....if it wasn't for John Lennon, we'd all be in some place very different tonight (cheers).... it's....it's an unreasonable... world and you have to live with a lot of things that are just unbeliveable .... and....it's a hard thing to come out and play but there's just nothing else you can do......"

There's no superlatives available that can do describe that speech.

On December 8, 1980, John Lennon was murdered in New York City. The next night Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's Spectrum. Many wondered whether Springsteen and the band would perform that night. They did. And they opened with a short speech by Springsteen, followed by an electric performance of "Born To Run."

He wasn't called the Boss for nothin'

Hey did you know this year will be 30th anniversary of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band 6 LP set Live 1975-1985 ? If there is a soundboard recording available of that 12-9-1980 concert, they should feature the Lennon tribute and include it on a 8 CD re-issue of the famous box set.

I don't think there's a rock and roll musician more generous, hard-working and open-hearted than Bruce. That's a great tribute to John Lennon. He was very stalwart after Sept. 11th with his community, our poet laureate of the event. He's never stopped being a Jersey boy, and I doubt he's ever phoned-in a concert in his life.

Good on you mate. Just found this one a few minutes ago. Bruce one-off version of 'Something' performed as a tribute to George Harrison. The crowd also sing along during a verse. Nicely done and wonderful atmosphere -

Hey folks. Time for another music quiz. This time the snippets are longer. This features mostly 1980's and 1990's popular tunes but one really rare 60's by a singer who became an icon that will probably surprise many of you.
No aussie's here this time. Can you identify the artists and-or the songs ?

Oh, dear...another several hours of my life gone to trying to work this out. I'm not so good with 90's, in particular, so I'm not going to try too hard. But thanks for putting it together!

Oh, you are good! I wanted to be first in with The Pretenders one, because I love Chrissie Hynde, and that song was my first slow dance. In Big Sur, CA. I date myself, but I was really young. Original: Melanie. I think #8 is Heart's "Magic Man." (Isn't that Heart? I didn't even google it.) I also got #1, 5 and 7, but I don't know the title, either. Who else sings in that accent?

EDIT: I got #9: Robert Palmer, "Not a Second Time." That was hard, because the song is familiar, and sounds like the Beatles (which it is,) but an obscure track. And the voice is familiar, but you can't place it, if you're thinking 60s.

Oh, that is gorgeous, and brings a tear. I so loved George Harrison. This is why Bruce is so great live, too. He plays long concerts, and you never know what he might come up with.

have you heard the Elvis live version on 'Something' ? Recorded 1970 but not released until 1995 ! Features a beautiful soprano in his band.

Very good britbox. # 3 is Shania but wrong song. Also #8 is not Ms Twain. It's strictly one song one artist.
