If Nole goes down today a match between Roger and Djokovic in the YEC final would probably determine it. If Djokovic wins today Roger would probably need to take Djokovic out in the semis to have a chance. If Djokovic wins the title Roger needs him to not qualify for the semis (1 out of 20 chance of that I'd imagine)

Players don't get brownie points for making it to Semis; So, making it to semi and losing
does not provide players extra points in comparison to not making it to semis at all.

^ Really? There isn't extra points for qualifying for the semis? That's a weird format.

200 for each round robin match win, +400 for a semifinal win, +500 for the final win.

Players get 200 points for each RR win, another 400 points if they win SF, and another 500 if they win F (a total of 1500 for undefeated champion).

That is a good observation. Roger may have to do something "special" (I promised not to
use some words) to meet Novak in Semis.

BNP Paribas Masters (1 November):

1. Novak Djokovic (F) 9460
2. Roger Federer (QF) 8700

Novak leads by 760 points.

He needs 870 points to win the race.

Novak is on a 20+ indoor win streak hater ;). Doubt him at your own risk.

Where the heck do you get your numbers from ??

Djokovic right now has 9610 points, a lead of 910 over Federer.

The last number depends on what assumptions you are making.

An easier way of looking at things is as follows:

If Novak wins tomorrow, then all that Novak needs, to mathematically clinch YE #1
(i.e., independent of what Roger may do at WTF and DCF), is either 3 RR wins or 2 RR
wins and the SF win.

If Novak loses tomorrow, then Novak needs, to mathematically clinch YE #1, is
either winning the WTF or reaching the final of WTF with 3RR wins.

Note that the above calculations are for complete certainty and in actual reality,
he can get away with lot less probably.

I calculated that Roger has a maximum 1625 points available to him him, and I subtracted Novak's lead. It translates better as him needing 3 wins in London, if he wins the final today.

Stats aren't my forte... :cover

Novak will lose 150 points from last years Davis Cup. GSM explains it earlier in the thread. His lead is 760 points, if we remove the points he'll lose anyway...

That's how I predict it will play out: in his next four matches Novak will win Paris, and go undefeated in the RR. End of story.

I've come to the conclusion that most of us still know $hit about ranking points, because this happens every year, coupled with false calculations and all. Or, we know $hit about math. One or the other. Or both, actually.

Does not really matter at the end of the day, it ain't happening.
Nole is in good form and state of mind, he will do enough to shut the door in front of Rodge's naughty nose

Congratulations to Novak - he's all but clinched the year-end #1 (he's have to lose every round-robin match and Roger win it all) and, I think, deserves it.

Now back to reality, Novak - go be a father for a week or two before getting read for the WTF.
