^3-in-a-row ?..yes ivan lendl won 85,86,87. though the crazy schedules back then saw the 1985 wtf/masters held in jan1986 where sadly McEnroe went awol after losing to brad gilbert.

some of the tennis calenders in the 1980s were mental..no wonder it was so confusing to tennis fans like me armed with only sporadic bbc matches/highlights, and gleaning year round strange information from my dads 'daily telegraph' (which did have decent all year coverage)..and my friends ceefax/teletext service on his telly.

Lendl winning twice in '86 like Martina for the ladies is a record that won't ever happen again in our lifetime! I suppose a big war could delay a YEC into the following year! Ya never know! :dodgy:

Unlike his fans, Mr Federer isn't giving up. ;)

WTF (13 November):

1. Novak Djokovic (RR+2) 10260
2. Roger Federer (RR+3) 9300

Novak leads by 960 points.

Novak needs 1 more victory in London to win the race.

He plays Berdych tomorrow...

FYI, Fedfans are giving up only on YE #1 (and that too because it is not in direct control)
and not on WTF Trophy.

I think the score in the final will be 6-0, 0-6, 7-6 (0) for someone, I don't know who...

This race was realistically over as soon as Paris was over. Roger needed to make the final there to have a realistic chance. Needing Nole to go 2-1 in round robin and lose in the semis was unrealistic here.

Still hope for Roger to win YEC outright but it would be tough vs. Nole on a slow hard court. Wish they were still playing YEC in Shanghai.

So it would be better if they changed courts to suit your guy, huh? Hmm ... let me think ... that reminds me of something ...

In my defense:

1. It was at Shanghai just before moving to London
2. At Shanghai it is still indoors, just faster.

It is a little different from Uncle Toni whining about the event not being on clay every once in awhile.

I think Nole won this thing in Shanghai once, didn't he? He has lots of problems with Cinci, New York, Dubai, grass, other quick surfaces so it's not like all the courts are best for him only. Not to mention his problems with very slow surfaces, like RG.;)

Anyway Nole's indoor winning streak is the third-longest of all-time, according to the ATP. Here are the top five:

1. John McEnroe 59
2. Ivan Lendl 37
3. Novak Djokovic 29
4. Roger Federer 26
5. Boris Becker 19

Wow at McEnroe and Lendl, that is going to be awfully hard to come close to.:exclamation:

Nole is also bidding to become the first man to three-peat at this event in nearly 30 years.

Yes Nole won in Shanghai...the one year of the past 12 that Roger didn't qualify for the semis ;)

Impressive streak for Djokovic. I'm surprised Roger didn't have a better streak than 26, I'm guessing it's due to Nalbs in 05 and again in 07 that stopped him from having a much longer streak.

Happy for Nole, the real N°1. Well deserved spot, hope he can win Masters (no doubt about it). Stefan must be proud of his daddy

Congratulations to Novak. There is no question that he deserved it.

In case he did not make it, it would have been very disappointing for him especially
considering that he lost it narrowly last year as well.

Fed can always get it again sometime in the next 1o years, since he is young.

Fed will not tie Sampras' record of six years at #1 this year.

Congratulations Novak!! Wedding the lady you love, the birth of your son and a year end #1... a very good year for you.

I am happy Novak is again NUMERO UNO, but I want of course him to win this event in London as well. It should be fitting.

One thing to remember is there are two governing bodies that give out YE No. 1's.... the ATP and the ITF. Last year the two organizations split the title between Nadal and Djokovic. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen. If Fed is within a few hundreds points in one, he could be over in the other. I'm thinking that if Federer wins the YE Championship this week, the ITF will award him YE No. 1... regardless of what the ATP does.

Actually, it will be the other way. ITF will give the "player of the year" award to Djokovic
independent of who ends up as YE #1. This is because ITF gives its awards based on performance
in ITF events ONLY (such as grand slams) and Novak clearly performed better than Fed
in that.

That is not true. They have said they look at all events but put heavier weight on ITF events...and Davis Cup is an ITF event.
