Novak isn't sharp tonight! I'm sure he'll come back, but he's down a break to Istomin 2-5 so far in the first set!

istomin had a chance tonight but he tightened up in the clutch. he lost the games he had to win.

To be honest right now I find it impossible to gauge how any of the top guys are going to be in 2 weeks time. Murray and Ferrer lost early in Montreal and looked poor, Djokovic was poor yesterday and Nadal tonight has served 3 DFs in 2 service games and only made to look good here scorewise because Matosevic is doublefaulting his way to doom also and hitting way too many errors. Federer's back is still questionable and he's not even in the running for favourites by any means. So who exactly does that leave? Del Potro maybe I think is in the best form and was cheated yesterday and could well have turned that match around. Only read he had back issues as I missed the match before yesterday but he looked fine and he should be fine for the US Open.

I'm with you, Front. It's really too unclear, at this point. We might all feel slightly savvier after Cincy.

u.s. open is roughly 15 days away.

if we don't know now then we will never know.

its pretty damn clear to me that we cant look past andy and nole at the u.s. open.

roger is hurting and nadal refuses to improve. it is also his worst surface.

only other possibility is del potro but I cant see him going past the semis at the open if he gets there at all.

cincy will tell us absolutely nothing. if anything you can expect the top guns to take it a little easy there and put in a bit of relaxed effort.

they are not going to want to risk injury with the open just a few days away.

For a guy that lives in a castle, I think you're suffering from a lack of imagination. The North American HC swing is more in flux than it has been in some time. I'd wait it out a bit longer, myself, before prognosticating only 2 options.

cincy is relatively very poor predictor of who is going to win the u.s. open.

like I said before, with 15 days to go, if you don't know now then you never will.

this is not rocket science. nadal is not going anywhere at the open and he is not going anywhere in cincy.

and most likely he will get run over by nole tomorrow.

andy and nole have the best chance for success at the open.

cincy will be fun and of coursewe will watch it but it means absolutely nothing.

all it means now is that somebody will go there and get a couple of matches under their belt just to get a little more acclimated to heat and humidity.

none of the top guns is going to go all out there to snatch the title. I expect nole and andy to keep a low profile there. lets see if they do that.

andy and nole show is what your going to see unless somebody gets extremely lucky and upsets nole on his way to the final.

make a list of players that you think are capable of beating andy and nole at the open. I really cant think of anybody.

I still have andy winning the title.

Whatever happened to you championing Rafa, when he's actually still in the conversation? He's won this title twice before. Why is he so unlikely?

one has to be objective. the whole world is reading the tennis frontier.

he has not shown me any improvements in his game. he will have to play one hell of a match tonight and nole would have to be really off.

I just cant see that happening. nole always plays out of his skin against the clay warrior.

lets hope I am wrong wrong about tonight and a miracle takes place but I don't think its going to be too pretty.

General Samson. I believe you have turned coat. :nono

Defend your castle from attack, but I - Lord Wedgie, Hammer of the House of Nadal, will be on your borders in the morning, ready for battle. We have some trivial business to attend to in Montreal first.

The Knuckle Duster of the Left Hand is dusting itself off for WAR!

He won Indian Wells and against Del Potro. You should have more faith in him. Neither Djokovic or Nadal have been amazing here so I'd say it's more even than you think. Anyway, we'll find out soon enough. Bring it on. Two men enter, one man leaves. In true gladiator fashion.

Fair weather friends, Lord Wedgie. But fear not, I, Princess Moxie, Contessa of the Cement Shoes, have sent my henchmen from New York to Montreal to make sure that the Serbian Slayer sleeps with the fishes. (They work for cash and lots of pizza.) As to the rest of the HC season, we have gone to the mattresses!
