Who said he was a dull champion? I need to go back and check my post! If I think back, the only time Pete has shown more life was hitting a ball at Agassi in that Haiti benefit a couple years ago! :laydownlaughing

"One of the dullest champions ever" - except in the Hit for Haiti. Boy, was that one embarrassing evening... :nono

I wouldn't have missed! :laydownlaughing :laydownlaughing Agassi's the biggest d-bag around; well on the court anyway! My mom lauds him over his foundation for needy kids, but thinking of his tennis, he just never impressed me! No one was more over-rated and underachieved as much as him; IMO! The losses he sustained with huge leads to players most have forgotten still haunt me! Early on, if you could keep him on the court close to 3 hours, you could come back and win like Mancini in Rome '89! Later on, it was more a headcase thing like his semi-final losses to Rafter at Wimbledon with a 2 break lead in the 5th set; twice ('00 & '01)!

The post asked what we thought about Pete's quote on a subject! I declined taking his opinion seriously! My added comment about him being dull had nothing to do with the man's tennis ability! He's just not one I would quote having to deal with many subjects, even tennis! You guys get so bent out of shape! Maybe you should read and interpret what's being said before losing your minds! No offense was meant; esp. since I proclaimed him the GOAT until Roger took over the mantle recently! Now that that has been discussed, he's dropping fast due to a lack of FO titles! Even Nadal may supplant him in the rankings one day and I find that the most disturbing since I've never been a fan of that kind of "ugly tennis!" I also get aggravated with the stalling/toweling off, butt pickin', invoking of "VAMOS'," and challenging of calls where he's so wrong he should lose 2 challenges! :snigger

You've declined to answer based on your biased opinion of him which is based on dislike. We are not on the 'personality' subject matter which is a pretty subjective matter itself, but we are on subject matter that is mostly fact based. So essentially we are talking about two very different things. But you didn't stop here. Your hatred on Murray took another turn and ended up being basically nowhere. You are calling Andy a drama queen and yet you insist no offense was meant. I will let you figure that one out because you need to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Andy is a drama queen and you are not.

Second, Nadal still has 12 Slams and 8 of them are on clay. Sampras has 14 Majors; 7 of them are on grass and 7 of them are on hard. Therefore, he had mastered his performance on two out of three surfaces. He was very dominant on carpet. Nadal has never won one on carpet - the variety is just not there anymore these days. Even so, he couldn't have possibly. Sampras was also at No. 1 for six straight years, a record even Federer couldn't' break - forget Nadal. Tennis is extremely taxing and to achieve the most Slams as well as the No. 1 ranking for six straight years is by no means an easy task. Ask the pros. And the true fans are aware of this.

And what you call is 'ugly' tennis is against strictly your opinion and a subjective one. Just because you say it doesn't make it automatically a fact. He had one of the best volleys in the game - a rare feat these days, the best serve perhaps in history and his famous running forehand not to mention his, overhead smashes - all his signature shots. And he moved like a cat and one could never hear him grunting unlike the players today. No match, sorry. He's the ultimate Picasso of tennis. And you are just a biased fan full of hatred. If I may, Nole tends to bounce his ball a million times when things get very tight. That, one can find very, very annoying.

I'm having a real time trying to figure out where you're coming from! You're so busy lambasting me, it appears you're taking both sides of the argument! I need to go back and read your tirade again! At first glance, I'm just confused! :laydownlaughing :laydownlaughing

and how about brad gilbert?

and finally what about killer cahill? who is he going with?

Patrick rafter is usually right on the money so we need his prediction.

A lot have picked Nadal. Too facile, after the wins in Montreal and Cincy? Will Nadal wither?

I am picking the clay warrior.

he is far from his best and yet he won anyway in montreal and cinci. he simply made up his mind to fight and make it happen and he did.

I also saw that certain look in his eyes and on his face:

he has rested his eyes on flushing meadows.

and that, sports fans, means trouble. and much suffering and grief.

for the others, that is.

Why do you keep saying Rafa is 'far from his best?' I think that's unfair to him. Many commentators and others have been astonished at his level of play on the HCs of late. And almost everyone has been surprised how quickly he came back from injury. He's 53-3 on the year. How much more of a pound of flesh do you want out of the guy? He may not play to his 2008 RG or otherwise 2010 best, but he's playing pretty damned well and beating most of the guys in front of him, including his greatest rivals, excluding MC. Athletes are human beings, and they can only do what they do. Rafa has done amazing things this year, so far. You would do well to appreciate that. Your bluff and bluster is amusing, but it strains credulity, and compassion, when you ask more of Nadal than he's given this year.

Because he knows his game better than anyone, living or dead, and is never wrong.

it's not rocket science. Of course he is far from his best.

that is what makes this open so exciting.

we will see if he can pull it off with Andy, nole, and roger also being on the same quest.
