that is what makes this open so exciting.

we will see if he can pull it off with Andy, nole, and roger also being on the same quest.

I don't see how your just hammering that point without really backing it up qualifies as explaining that Rafa is not at is best. However, I'm moving on, because you won't explain.

I do agree that this Open could be pretty exciting. Surely Rafa, Novak and Andy have got to be in the tight running for the title, but there's a lot to be seen about what form everyone brings to the first week. If Rafa runs out of gas, and Andy/Nole continue as lack-luster as they have been, it really could be anyone's trophy to heft. (My next two choices would be Delpo and Fed.)

I'll entertain this argument when it's backed by anything concrete. Now it's entirely possible that Nadal comes out a bit flat early on at the US Open. In fact, I'm expecting it to happen. However, based on what we've seen in Montreal and Cinci, he's playing close to his best hard court tennis. His serve is clicking, his forehand is clicking, his movement is clicking, and his backhand is clicking. It is indeed not rocket science.

you just contradicted yourself general broken shoe?

you say:

1. "his serve is clicking"
2. "his forehand is clicking"
3. "his movement is clicking"
4. "his backhand is clicking"

and then you say you expect him to come out flat.

make up your mind.

he is far from his best but looks like it is rocket science to you.

my position: he is at 65% capacity of what he can and could do like in 2010.

what is helping his cause at the moment is that he has shown renewed hunger, drive, and energy. he has placed some goals in front of him.

2nd thing that is helping is that some of the other top guns have been slightly off.

an old man with a bad back and 44 unforced errors was fairly close to taking nadal out in cincy.

as baron britbox has said, it was just a matter of a couple of games and the momentum shifted.

even nadal himself said that he was lucky against roger in cincy. and nadal also said that he was lucky against nole in montreal.

so here is the bottom line: nadal is happy with the wins and he will gain confidence and momentum from them anyway.

if he can take them down at 65% capacity or less---especially on the hard courts this late in the season--- than he can go into the open with some confidence.

deep inside in his heart of hearts I think he could be liking his chances but he knows he will have to play an incredible match in the final to get it done.

the story of 7 doomed men is being told here if you find yourself in the nadal camp:

1 down and 6 to go.

Everything was clicking in Montreal and Cinci, but I expect him to come out flat in the first couple of matches in New York due to the couple of weeks of rest, the different approach to a slam (where top players will look to pace themselves early on) as well as the different weather conditions at Flushing Meadows. What's contradictory about that claim?

^ That's fair enough, plus, there's no reason to come out at full-blast. He's got to work intelligently towards peaking at the right time.

That's what I've been waiting to hear!

My legions are on the march. (OK, they're mostly on the 7 Train, with some in limos.) The swanks, the swells, the blue-collared and the dog-collared, the singers, the gypsies and a few stars. (They asked not to be named.) We don't even need weapons...we'll get everyone else on pure attitude. And my troops, and their attitude, say Rafa's going to take New York. ¡Vamos!

We are always prepared for glory. The question is only what shoes will go best with that trophy? We think Manolo Blahnik's, but we're pretty sure Rafa will insist on those pink Nike's. Ah, well...

No full frontal please. It's bad enough that we now see him tug the front part of said full frontal while receiving serve now! :nono

Oh, puhleeze. The vast majority of male athletes, it seems to me, tug at themselves regularly. When did YOU get so delicate, Front?

I am pissed.
