I just can't believe how this era is starting to mirror the past when veterans ruled! How Del Po is this high in the rankings is baffling! I know his win earlier this season besting Roger in IW's final, but overall most everyone in the world thinks more of his being on injured reserve and coming back from another surgery!

His injury was not that recent, as you fail to remember that he has been quite successful in the last 52 weeks.
IW winner, USO and RG Semis, Miami and Shanghai Semis, titles in Acapulco (500) and Stockholm.

I didn't say he wasn't successful, one wonders how's this possible; another aging player receiving a "fountain of youth" somewhere?!

Because the younger generation is weaker, that is for sure.
JM won a slam at 20y of age, compare that with next gen. achievements.

Novak started the match against Grisha like with Mannarino, going down 2-6. This will not be so easy to turn it around.

I don't think he's desperate for this match even though it would be great to win and complete his collection; 9 of 9 Masters! If he were truly desperate for match play, ya think Winston would object to having him in as a last minute WC? Just musing about it to myself! :cuckoo:

But he is visibly frustrated

I cannot believe all the commentators I listen to
pronounce Fucsovics name incorrectly?
Why pronounce "cs" differently, once like [ks] and once like [ch] ????
It should be the same sound both times for heaven's sake!

Novak has a “F***k, it’s going to be one of those days...” look today.
And then Dimitrov totally gives the break back. Grigor the Lesser is done, imo.

At this point, everyone might have to play two matches per day. i wonder how Federer and Djokovic will feel about that especially it is before the US Open...

Doubtful, as Djoker will certainly finish tonight and Roger will probably be able to play a full match. So if they win they won't need to play two matches tomorrow.

Djoker looks disinterested, when he is engaged he is looking good enough, and overall he's moving fine, just pushing a lot of his shots. I think he's going to be tough to beat at USO when it matters. I think his play the past couple weeks is just about going through the motions.

That’s assuming the weather permits...because the forecast for tonight and tomorrow doesn’t look good at all.

Going through the motions isn't going to get him the USO. He still seems far from his best, even if he's able to get on over on Dimitrov, who is a perfectly terribly tennis player hiding in the clothing of an actually good one. What a choker.

At this point, they should just cancel play for tonight...no point of starting a match just for it to get suspended again. Also, starting a match at midnight will be bad for the players.
