I did not see the match today, but in his first match against Kudla, he hardly moved at all. He was just bombing serves one after the other.
He grimaced mimicking pain in his knee when he made a few steps.
Hard to play against someone like him, one moment he looks injured ready to retire the next he fires 4 aces in a row.

No one is really coming of age you see. Kyrgios, Zverev anyone for that matter.

With all serious opponents (Joker, Cilic, Raonic) barking at each other in the top half and others next-to-serious (Kandy, DelPo, Kyrgios) clashing against each other in the 3 quater, before posing threat to the true-and-only-goat, I think the goat (Fed) has a very easy draw in Cincy this year. On paper, Fed should sail on a gentle breeze all the way to the final, where Joker is possibly the worst obstacle. However Joker should be tired at this stage because he's got some hard back to back matches to go through, even in Rafa's absence.
But I smell a very tricky all Swiss QF (I think both of them advance to it). Stan is rapidly gaining confidence and reminding us he did not forget how he played 2 years ago. So Fed'd better prepare for it as if it was a final. Mirka cannot repeat her "cry baby" call to upset Stan and help tip the scale in favour of Fed family, because it would be politically incorrect. She must find out another exorcist act to stop Stan & help her husband on the way to the elusive 99 title.

It's going to be raining all day, doubt any matches get in.

Stan was amazing last night, the backhand was completely unplayable. Kei did a terrible job staying away from it but it was fun to see.

I still can't believe that BS went on at the YEC a week before their 2014 DC final! It had gotten so ugly near the end of their match at the YEC, I thought Stan would either not play or throw his matches for some reason the following week! When someone owns you as Roger has owned Stan for so many years, when you come close like that and everyone knew he was hurt as well, it's all the more galling Roger went out of his way killing himself to win that SF match so he could then default the final to Novak! I wouldn't have spoken civily to Roger ever again! I guess that makes me rather small! ALL I know is a friend wouldn't have been in the middle of that drama with Stan and Mirka! They have to be full fledged enemies! Anyone? :nono:  :cuckoo:

I wouldn't blame that mess on Roger. Mirka is a wolf and she pounced on Stan that day. Roger naturally had to come to her defense a bit after she taunted Stan. She probably wasn't pleased that Stan would abandon his family to chase glory but given what he's done since I can't blame him and who knows what his side of the story is? His ex-wife sounded like a dragon lady, a pair of cement shoes for his career, etc. Mirka is an asset for Roger, I can tell she doesn't put up with any BS losses or all-around weakness. It seems like Stan's family totally held him back.

And from what I remember Roger got hurt near the end of the match, or possibly his back got worse after as it was a long and grueling 3 setter.

3 hours of clear weather this afternoon, but with the courts soaked and no sun, it looks like the entire day and rest of the tournament are in jeopardy. What happens if the rain stays until Sunday? This must have happened before somewhere. What do the organizers do?

Have to extend the tournament. What else CAN you do? Good thing there is a gap between Cincy and the Open.

Continuous rain may result in not having the last round or two. This hurts players’ preparation for USO.

Potro and Chung starting now.

I just can't believe how this era is starting to mirror the past when veterans ruled! How Del Po is this high in the rankings is baffling! I know his win earlier this season besting Roger in IW's final, but overall most everyone in the world thinks more of his being on injured reserve and coming back from another surgery! How in the world has this Next Gen allowed geezers to rule the tour and the top 10 in their waning years? :nono:  :banghead:

It's traditionally been a very weak field going on 20 years due to US Open beginning the next day! Until they push Flushing a week or 2, Winston will continue to flounder with lame results and more than likely bum attendance! Heaven knows I can't remember when I even listened to the result of the tournament much less watched it! It may never happen with Labor Day anchoring the tournament! :lol3: :nono:

I have hopes these guys won't be as pathetic as the Raonic, Dimitrov, Noshikori generation. But they still need more time and chances are there are a couple young guys that are often touted right now that won't ever become great players. I think Thiem will fall in that group and maybe others.

One thing to remember about "NextGen" is that they're already far more successful than the "LostGen" were at a comparable age. Let's go back five years to 2013, and here are the Lost Gen players (born 1989-93) ranked in the top 50 for year end-rankings:

11. Raonic (22)
17. Nishikori (23)
21. Janowicz (23)
23. Dimitrov (22)
26. Paire (24)
32. Pospisil (23)
49. Sousa (24)
51. Tomic (21)

And here are the top 50 Next Gen currently:
4. Zverev (21)
15. Tsitsipas (20)
16. Edmund (23)
17. Pouille (24)
18. Kyrgios (23)
21. Coric (21)
25. Chung (22)
27. Khachanov (22)
32. Shapovalov (19)
37. Rublev (20)
38. Tiafoe (20)
42. Jarry (22)
43. de Minaur (19)
45. Marterer (23)

So not only are there currently twice as many players age 24 and younger in the top 50 as there were five years ago, but there are more very young players (age 21 and under): seven ranked #43 or better. In 2013, Bernard Tomic (age 21) was the highest ranked 21-or-under at #51.

My guess is that a year from now we'll see three or four of the above names in the top 10 and that half or more of the top 20 will be made up of NextGenners.

Good defense the last two points by Milos led to pull out the decisive break and beat Denis.
Milos maintains the top Canadian ranking spot, which Denis lost last week.

Fed has asserted many times, that all his friendship with Stan is put aside when on the other side of the net.
But, needless to say, Fed wasn't as conscious about his "smart scheduling" then as he's now. Otherwise, he should have tanked that match, I agree with you.

I’ve never been near that spot, trust me ;-):
