^ Disagree with this for a couple of reasons (responding to Kirjax)... Players in ANY sport will push the envelope to gain an advantage. I don't hit on them for doing it... It's reality.

If a player thinks slow play will upset the rhythm of an opponent, then so be it. If a player screams and it's given a pass then they'll keep doing it.

If the governing body start clamping down on it then they change behaviour. Look at Soccer and Rugby... Soccer Players give the referees a mouthful of abuse and are largely unpunished. Do the same in Rugby Union then the ball gets moved forward 15 yards as a punishment. That's why backchat against referees in Rugby Union is minimal... because it hurts the cause.

I don't have a big issue with Nadal pushing the envelope - like all players he's trying to push the envelope. I've got more of an issue with the ATP caving in and a bunch of his fans trying to perpetuate the silly notion that Rafa is some church going choirboy who pets puppies in his spare time.

a) We know he' s non-believer b) He hates dogs and c) He's a sportsman who pushes the envelope.

No big deal.

This! Just have the moral courage to admit he's not a saint. It's like some of these people believe because he's an awesome player than means he's an angel. It is utterly bizarre and says more about them really :nono

Very few professional sportsman are saints mate... they have to be ruthless with a certain mindset to get to the summit. Nadal is no different.

Exactly! That's what I don't get with some Nadal fans. Frankly if I was a Nadal fan (I'm almost vomiting even talking hypotheticals :lolz:) I wouldn't have any problem admitting some of the stuff he gets up to. Big deal!

Is he an awesome player or does he have an awesome coach though? That's the question.

It's funny how you guys have created your reality and believed your own BS. Nadal is not close to being a saint, except there are far fewer people arguing he's a saint than there are people calling him human garbage.

I never noticed the finger sniffing :laydownlaughing I wouldn't want to shake his hand after a match then!

I'd never wouldn't want to shake Roger's hand after a match either, he always is touching his nose too
:nono

Nobody is saying that he is a saint but he is not so bad like some Roger's fans like to say, it sounds more than ridiculous

How is cursing even an issue? I swear people want these players to be emotional robots.

No, I don't believe so. He's capable of speeding up, if only reluctantly. He takes so long because they allow him to...

Except when Bernardes holds him to it. Then the ump get's sh*t-can kicked to the curb. :snicker

Sheesh, Nadal has abused the rules since he started on tour. Harken back to the Indian Wells match a few years ago. On match point he needed to go the bathroom and was grated the right to do so. The man is not as classy as everyone assumes.

He's immature, acts like a 5 year old. Whining when umpires enforce rules, potty breaks, all those selfserving comments (WTF needs to be on clay, 2 year ranking system, etc etc etc). He also sleeps with the lights on, and needs to do all kind of movements before he can hit a ball. These are all things spoiled little children do on the tennis court.

Not the ambassador of the sport you would like. It is what it is though. I really hope the ATP takes its governing structures more seriously . It should not be possible for a player to singlehandedly decide that an umpire cannot work on his matches, it ludicrous. Also the sport needs to be more transparent in how it handles these issues. This also applies to these silent bans.

From "The Inertial Observer"

French Open 2015: Towel Defense Foundations is studying legal action against Federer

It is all over the internet: a video showing Roger Federer, once seen as a class act, loudly cursing into a towel during a routine win against Marcel Granollers in the French Open. The Towel Defense Foundation (TDF), though, was far from happy and it is studying a legal action against the Swiss. An anonymous source has confirmed to the Inertial Observer that tennis players have long been monitored, and that they were sure that something serious would happen soon. "They are preparing to a war", he warned.

TDF spokesperson has not confirmed, but acknowledge the Foundation's dislike. "It is a shame that this sole called role models keep behaving like this. We are monitoring them since Rafael Nadal physically abused Lukas Rosol's towel in Wimbledon a few years ago. We will study our options."

The situation is tense. We understand that the Racquet Appreciation Society expressed its support to the TDF, and warned: legal action is useless. We need to pay back in the same currency.

Dark days are ahead. And it is shame that two proeminent sportsmen are so deeply involved in this sea of mud.

Except Federer did not request the towel to not show up at his next match and his cursing was directed at himself.

This. The big question: Do Federberg and Britbox have the moral courage to point out the posts in which Rafa fans canonized him?

This thread has become ridiculous ...

The cursing nonsense was used by two Nadal fans as a truly lame counter to Nadal's time wasting. I can personally recall only one instance of cursing from Roger at the US Open 2009 final unless some of these individuals count "Shutup" and "Be quiet ok" as cursing which frankly wouldn't surprise me. And Del Potro's late challenge was beyond a joke as was the umpire allowing him to challenge when Roger was already sitting down. Anyone would curse at the sheer stupidity and nerve of Del Potro asking to challenge so late and the umpire letting him do so.

Federer curses far more than you think and I can find you at least 3 videos on Youtube detailing it. He's cursed (loudly) for missing shots. But yeah, it's absolutely a no issue. You don't have to justify it. These players are playing for millions. It is their life. Competition, pride, money, legacy is on the line. If I curse at the office occasionally, they're going to curse on the court.

I don't care that Murray curses all the time either. Even Nadal utters "puta" a lot after missing shots. What the hell is the big deal? Are we so hypocritical?

By the way, can this thread be renamed: "Character Assassination"?
