38 year old Gael Monfils makes the R16 at the AO, 2nd oldest male player to do that in over 25 years ( first is Federer)

At this stage of his career, fans should stop lamenting what he did not accomplish in his career, IMO missing the point: simply appreciate that someone like him can still exist in mens tennis and be thankful for that.
Co-signing this. I don't really care for his missed opportunities or that he never beat Novak. He is still a charismatic tennis player in my eyes.

Reaching this stage of a slam coming after injuries at his age is great. He obviously still enjoys been out there. Every true tennis fan would love to see him go even further here. I hope he makes SF at least.

Little Holger was down 2-4 in the 4th set and battling cramps at that point, so great effort to dig in. These types of matches cab pay dividends down the line.
He proves himself again as a clutch player. When his head is against the wall Rune plays the best tennis.

Don Fabio,
Out of these players who will make their first AO SF,
Monfils, Shelton, Tien, Sonego?

It's a tough call and alll these players have a decent chance. Probably winner of Shelton Monfils match reaches SF, but I wouldn't count out other 2.
I watched Head Case Musetti against Shelton, he had his chances against Shelton but he did not take them, hopefully Monfils wont make the same mistake

Even though I cant stand him as a player Zverev has quietly moved through the draw with no fuss, though I must say he has had a favorable draw.

Monfils exposed Fritz lack of transition game, all match, an area he needs to address!
You do realize that Frits is from LA and most of his family and friends are affected by the fires in the city and most of them has lost their homes? I don't even get how he could play that match.

Yes I do, well that was up to him to play, I was just pointing out in the match, one of the reasons that Monfils exposed in his game

I know but it might be because his head and heart was somewhere else.
Actually, Fritz is from the San Diego area, but Tien is from Irvine, which IS LA, and he's still in.

Didnt the winds start from the San Diego area and moved through, living in Australia I fully understand the tragedy of bush fires we have them every Summer and have had towns wiped out because of them and the loss of many lives.

I think the current level Sonego is showing is head and shoulders above the other three. Let's see if he keeps this up.

Quite frankly I am surprised and delighted by Sonego and his form so far at the AO

Sonego is a seasoned veteran player, been to the Rodeo before, would love to see him reach a Grand Slam SF’s , nice story fireside with his grandkids to relate. : )

Sonego is indeed a good, intense player and recent history says is never to late for a top 50 player. I have never seen him play so well, even if I cannot fail to mention that Fonseca's drop in intensity in set 2 and 3 helped him a lot. By the way, some of other matches seem to be in slow motion compared to theirs ...
