Sonego is indeed a good, intense player and recent history says is never to late for a top 50 player. I have never seen him play so well, even if I cannot fail to mention that Fonseca's drop in intensity in set 2 and 3 helped him a lot. By the way, some of other matches seem to be in slow motion compared to theirs ...
Yeah, unless Learner Tien has that drop in intensity that Fonseca has, Tien is going to make it to the semifinals.

Tien making it to the semifinals would be a lot better for the game and future of men's tennis than a player like Monfils.

Nope, Monfils making it to the SF’s would be wonderful for men’s tennis, what a narrative that would weave. ; )

What have you got against French players? :)
You know what I would love to see Monfils win the AO this year, no I am not drunk or taking drugs, or other medication, if my Italian cannot repeat

" My dream is to be old and healthy, with lots of kids" ( I hope he has run that by his wife Elina)
Monfils after his win against Fritz.

Yes. A prematch to the Davis Cup match coming up...

So much talent in Serbia, but none of these guys can finish! Novak's been alone, but got them thru 2010 to take their lone Davis Cup! Of course there was the Inaugural ATP (now United) CUP a few yrs. ago, but that's been about it in team comp.! :astonished-face::angry-face::yawningface::anxious-face-with-sweat::face-vomiting:

Hmmm... I am not that sure. Yes, Fonseca let his level drop in two sets, but even in the sets he won, Sonego was right there. If he keeps that level, he has a big chance to take this one

Francisco Cerundolo v Alex de Minaur Highlights | Australian Open 2025 Third Round

three hours, 50 minutes to play 4 sets of tennis !!!

Worrying signs to me was Alex led 5-3 in the first set and then lost 4 games in a row. He double-faulted on set-point.

Alex really let him off the hook and then the match became a gruelling baseline battle.
He cannot afford to let this lapse happen, again !!!

The argentine was affected by cramps late in the third and for the rest of the match which took away some of the quality of this battle.

He double-faulted on match point.
