Went for a snooze with the little guy and woke up to find Fed up 5-2 in set 5. First time in ages he's in a winning position in a 5th set. Good job, Roger.

This is the first 5 set win (against a top 5 opponent) in grand slams for Fed since 2013 AO when he beat Tsonga in 5 sets. [Since then he has lost three in a row].

This is Federer's 200th career win against top 10 opponents. Needless to say no one else has that many wins against top 10 opponents. :clap

Another tidbit. Fed currently has 310 GS match wins. If he wins AO outright, he will have 313 GS match wins. That will also give him the sole possession of the record for most major match wins beating the current record of 312.

Here is Fed vs. Mischa H2H 2-0. Details follow.

2013 Halle QF Fed 6-0 6-0
2009 Rome QF 7-6, 6-2

Incidentally, both of the above matches happened at QF, just the same round in which they will meet at AO this year.

83 winners from Maestro's racquet against one of the best defenders we have today. That's quite impressive if you ask me.
Fed's level in the second and third set was just unplayable. However, he did have a few hiccups that were really unnecessary, seeing as Kei didn't really play his absolute best. It wasn't that long for a five setter and he has a serve and volley player in the next round so he should be as fresh as a daisy for the semifinal.
Things are getting serious.
I didn't watch Murray's match but Zverev surely can't beat Murray and Fed back to back, plus Andy hit way too many unforced errors and didn't play Zverev the way you should from what I read. Not to mention Roger double bagelling Mischa in 2013, on grass no less.

Roger had a whopping 83 winners in this match. He is +36 in differential. Kei is +10 in differential. Both of them having positive differential is another indicator that this was a good match.

Fed will presumably have an easy match against Mischa (also, I hope they would place it in day session so that I don't have to stay up to watch it like today).

That easy match should help against his SF opponent (especially if they go after each other for five sets for over five hours).

However, it ain't over until it is over. Fed can be beaten by Stan, Tsonga, Rafa and Milos among the remaining players.

Except for the unforced errors, Fed beat Kei in every statistical category, apart from just winning the match.

Folks should recall that in AO, they play the two men's semifinals on two different days. Fed being in top half which is playing first this year, will have his SF first. So, he will have two full days of rest after SF and before F. It will be much appreciated by the old man.

Needless to say, if Fed wins the next match (which is winnable), he would have defended his AO points from last year and will be maintaining (or improving) his ranking of 17.

Yeah, a gritty and impressive win. RoboRoger and his bionic knee are ready to take on the world in 2017.

Federer hit 83 winners to 47 unforced errors. Nishikori hit 42 winners to 32 unforced errors. Fed's stats are incredible.

There are only three players alive who have won GS before. They are Roger, Rafa and Stan.

More than Mischa winning, I am happy that serve & volley player won. Hopefully, this will make more players to try that style.

I think Fed already has this record for singles players. But, this probably includes doubles. I did not catch the details. But, I heard it said by TV commentators.

Yeah, I miss Michel Llodra on tour. He was a maestro at that on fast courts. Stakhovsky proved he can do it on grass against Roger at Wimbledon 2013 but it's not often you see this style of play win on medium hard court against the world number 1, no less. Hearty congrats to him.

Highlights for those who missed it. Including me! Missed sets 3, 4 and most of set 5. Watching now. Some great shot making.

This does not include doubs. Serena holds the record right now with 312. She eclipsed Fed who previously held the record at 307 during last year's USO. So if they both go on to win this tournament, Serena will still hold the outright record.

Federer is likely to play longer than Serena so I doubt she'll end up surpassing him. Depending on how she fares at the slams this year, who knows, she may call it quits now that she's getting married.
