Both Abu Dhabi finalists, Bencic and Samsonova, are still planning to play Doha. Bencic opens against a qualifier, potentially gets Azarenka in Rd 2. Samsonova opens against Kenin.

The fact that Linette made a slam semifinal last month and has a world ranking that high proves that we are in the weakest era of women's tennis. The WTA today is just glorified high school tennis. Over the last 15 years or so, I've seen high school girls tennis matches played at a higher quality than some women's tennis matches at the US Open.

Just looking at some interesting match ups tomorrow in Qatar Open,

S.Kenin vs L. Samsonova, interested to see how Samonsonva fares up after losing in 3 sets to Belinda Bencic in the final at Abu Dhabi
M.Keys vs J. Ostapenko, Jelena is sporting a new hair style ............fully braided hair :)
B. Bencic (7) vs V.Tomova, Bencic having a day off from her 3 set win in the final at Abu Dhabi
M.Sakkari (5) vs Q.Zheng, Sakkari continues to be a 'head case' was the No 1 seed in Linz was in charge of the match against Martic and then? we all know how that match ended.
Paula Badosa will have her hands full with Beatrix Haddad Maia

Sofia Kenin has played one of her best matches in years to defeat Luidmila Samsonova 63 61 in Qatar ( Samsonova finalist in Abu Dhabi a few days ago)
As I thought Paula Badosa did have her hands full by Beartriz Haddad Maia, the 1set set took 82 mins to complete 76(6) lol!
B.Haddad Maia d P. Badosa 76(6) 63, Paula is coming back to the tour after a abductor issue, she had to withdraw from the AO.
Maria Sakkari (5) had to fight hard to win her match in 3 sets against Zheng, who played a 'brillant tweenner' shot of the match, 62 36 63, when Zheng becomes more consistent, she will be hard to beat, she did have her chances to win the match

Samsonova must be tired...
Well she did play a final a few days ago, though Bencic did as well, had no trouble winning in straight sets, I must say it was the best I have seen Kenin play in a long time she deserved the win

See, I don't like that some of the WTA players overschedule, especially in this part of season after the AO and there's no slam at stake. I'd much rather they rest up and save it for IW, Miami, and the clay court season. It would also help the WTA if there was a 2-month midseason break after the FO. The lack of a break and the quick turnaround from the FO (on clay) to Wimbledon (on grass) creates some of the worst tennis ever played at Wimbledon, especially in the women's game.

One thing I have noticed since Belinda Bencic, hired Tursnov as her new coach, when she is down in a match, she fights, normally at times when Belinda gets behind she pouts when things do not go her way, for example she was down 16 1-4 today in her match against Azarenka and fought back to win the match 16 76(4) 64....well done Belinda.

Jess Pegula fought back winning 5 straight games in the final set against Ostapenko 62 26 75
