That was just vintage Djokovic from Janowicz - he was returning everything.

Kubot serving for the match as well, squandered 3 MP's on Meanderinos serve.

Yup, and a Polish semifinalist.

Another 3 MPs for Kubot.

And there it is a Polish semifinalist at Wimbledon.

Yes, the polish quarter final is happening indeed, this must be the first one ever.

Dodig hanging in there, can't see him winning though. Too bad Sijsling had to retire, that would have been a better player to beat Ferrer.

You too Brutus? Why nobody (except Moxie and Iona and me) likes Ferrer?

By the way, this is a very good match, I enjoy it.

And Moxie likes all Spanish players. You might have to ask yourself why you like Ferrer while pretty much everone else doesn't :D

Darth! Thanks for condescendingly implying that I'm indiscriminate. Ferrer is my second-favorite, because of the way he plays. It's not just because he's some random Spaniard, like Bautista Agut...but still, one does need a system. :)

herios, I like David Ferrer. But he IS beatable and it is hard seeing him beat any of the "Big Four" in a Final, except for perhaps Andy Murray and a declined Federer. But he's clearly the "best of the rest" and, one could argue, now the 4th best player in the world, at least if and when Roger starts playing better. But I would love to see Ferrer win a Slam - what a great thing for tennis and, I think, would mark the end of the FedalDjokurray Hegemony.

I like Ferrer, too. There's a lot to admire and enjoy.

The grunting, the beautifull backhand, the finesse, the power, the raw shotmaking, the way he makes tennis match outcomes unpredictable and exciting, the literary quality of his press-conferences. Yup, he has it all.

just so that nobody gets the wrong impression - i like the guy too! i tend to agree with Denis on the grunting, i do think it sometimes might be an issue with him. and like Dude, i think that there's a certain ceiling to what he can do - ie take out the biggest ones. so his #3 move might actually be huge for him, because it increases the chances that he could go even all the way through a slam without facing a "Big Four" (pardon the expression) member.

anyway, i honestly do love the guy's attitude, and even more so his i/o fh :)

That will not happen. Ferrer will be in a wheelchair the day Murray and Djokovic start losing a step. He is 5 years older. He will have to depend on upsets to win one. A lot of upsets. Granted if that happens, he is likely to win it.

Verdasco en route to his maiden QF at Wimbledon.

No offense, but Herios likes a great many players doesn't he? ;)

I personally like Ferrer's grit and fight. He's a lot like Roddick in that regard. It's just when I hear people putting him above the likes of Delpo, Berdy, and Tsonga, I want to hit the 'pause' button! He's overachieved with the tools he has and that in itself is commendable. But that's just it, he has less in his bag of arsenal to dethrone the elite players than do those other guys. He's like an overclocked processor, redlined his game to the point that he rarely loses to inferior competition. So to sum up, he's a very good player, belonging to the near-elite group. Nothing more nothing less.

IMO, he is not an overachiever, the others, Tsonga, Berdych & comp have underachieved.

Totally agree with you there, Herios. Those players have underachieved, unfortunately. If they had David Ferrer's willpower, we would have a very different tennis history. But then some will say the mental aspect of the game is a weapon to consider and there is much truth to that.

Wow, what a point from Murray. He's just exquisite at net.

Youzhny manages to hold serve with a sweet cc BH to clip the line. Still down the one break.

I agree with the gist of this but don't be surprised if Andy and Novak start losing a step as soon as next year when they'll be turning 27, a very common age for players to lose half a step (see "Federer, Roger" and seemingly "Nadal, Rafael").

I'm not saying that Ferrer would be the new player to beat, mind you, just that at some point there's going to be a crack in the "Hegemony" and we'll likely look back on it as a Slam won by someone else. While obviously Djokovic and Murray are the clear favorites, perhaps this tournament isn't done with surprises yet. But while I could see Ferrer beating Andy, if and only if Andy had a head-case match, I just can't see him beating Djokovic under almost any circumstances. So yeah, it would require some upsets.

Is there any player today that perceives where the ball is going to go better than Murray?
