typical Melzer - he played horrible for a year now, and once he's at nothing to lose, and got a great excuse for staying home (hernia), he gets to swing freely.

two more sets and he'd be the first Austrian man to ever make it to the quarters at Wimbledon's singles.

Dodig hanging in there, can't see him winning though. Too bad Sijsling had to retire, that would have been a better player to beat Ferrer.

You too Brutus? Why nobody (except Moxie and Iona and me) likes Ferrer?

By the way, this is a very good match, I enjoy it.

Not true. I like Ferrer, but he is in a little trouble. Not hitting the ball as cleanly per his standards.

And Moxie likes all Spanish players. You might have to ask yourself why you like Ferrer while pretty much everone else doesn't :D

Why do German speaking players like to wear their caps like 13 year olds?

Ha awesome rally between Dodig and Ferrer.

Jurgen really plays well, aside of the TB, which was a stinker.

At 4-4 in the 3rd, I took a bathroom break and didn't see jerzy breaking Jurgen, now he is up 2-1,
Mannarino is also leading Kubot 2-1

The other Pole is up a break in the 5th against fellow Challenger tour player Mannerino.

fifth against a guy with a Hernia? i think JJ should start (or stop?) thinking, and take this home. with this going to five, i doubt that Juergen could take it and still have enough left for the quarters, so i hope Jerzy does it.

That would be pretty crazy for there to be a Pole in the quarters not named Jerzy.

Looks like Poland is doing very well. Have they ever achieved such a feat before? Two men in the QF?

Am loving Jerzy. I'm wondering if in the minds of the top players he's replaced Milos Raonic as the young gun to avoid.

Who would like to avoid Raonic? :laydownlaughing

I saw him play the Fedster at the AO, he's worse than Karlovic almost re movement. I like the kid, but he's not a serious contender.

^ For the record, I have nothing against grunting, on the men's or women's side. I will try to go back and look, but when I watch them play, it seems an expulsion of air related to effort. I don't really get that, in the few seconds they have to see the ball, choose a shot, and make it effectively, they also have time to decide when to make a noise. But maybe they're more clever at multi-tasking than I believe.

Grunting does seem to be in vogue nowadays. I don't mind it quite so much on a Nadal or Ferrer. Though it was amusing to hear David give one of those demonstrative grunts he uses when hitting a particularly good shot on a return and it sailed on him by a huge margin. The only person I can think of that gets under my skin with all the screeching would be Azarenka. A chorus of Banshee's wailing Kumbaya would be less irritating. :nono

looking at this list of male players from Poland, i'd be very surprised if they did, in singles at least (have some respectable doubles guys too, Fyrstenberg comes to mind). so it's not just the Radwanska sisters anymore. nice to see.

^ There is also this Portugese lady, she played Sharapova. At first I liked it that the Portugese was winning, then I turned on the sound. Bad idea.

Sharapova's vocal theatrics are annoying as well. But well, she's just so darn pretty, hard to stay vexed with her for long.
