The more I watch WTA matches these days the more these slam upsets are basically no longer upsets, reason being the same best of 3 format at every single event means if you can beat someone in Dubai as Cornet did against Serena, then Wimbledon is just as possible. Sure, different surface but so what, you've proven you can beat them and the format is the same number of sets at slams. Much more of a tough ask in slams for the men with guys who may win a best of 3 against someone having way less chance in best of 5.

So ridiculous to see again and again; an also-ran taking out the top player! Women's tennis is just so hard to watch these days! Like a lot of the men, she hit a great shot to put Cornet on the defensive, then backed up! I can't stand it! The fore-court is still pretty pristine after a week! On grass? Sick and stupid! :nono :puzzled

Well, Cornet's good in fairness and beat her in Dubai. She deserved to win but Serena was far from good too.

Well, I'm hoping Halep or Bouchard win the whole thing now personally.

Genie just bows in front of her highness cheatpova and lets her win somehow, and Halep is not made for grass I am afraid. Simona does amazing things but to win the whole thing looks unrealistic to me at present.
I believe in her of course because she is super special in my eyes, but my logic says she cant.

I had my doubts about Serena the whole year and was hoping for a change... she has now until September to start playing real tennis and stop messing around. I hope Serena didnt lose her self belief, this can also be a reason to her state.

Yeah, hope she gets a grip and starts playing better. A lot better. I agree most of the other girls get intimidated by that pathetic screaming/shrieking muppet. Take away her screaming and it's a lot closer contest with any opponent. Granted, many others are bad too but she in particular should be muzzled when she plays. It's a completely unfair distraction when you're focusing on your own game and some muppet is screaming at the top of their lungs on the other side of the net. Imagine how loud it must be a couple of feet away.

^ and the way she breaks the rhythm when it fits her and stares at the other player to get her out of focus just before she serves. She is looking for the eye contact... its all dirty mind games. No other player does it to such extent.
The other players respect each other more or less, but she has such status that she can get away with these dirty mind games.

Yup. I detest those horrible stares and the way she turns her back all the time before serving. Plus, she's constantly taking way too long as a result of both of those.

Taking time is a way to stress the other player and get him out of focus.
Simona never serves over 10 seconds. She is always in a hurry when she serves. :)

??? We are talking about Sharapova. Who do you think I call cheatpova all the time? :D
There are other players I may feel cold to, but to actually dislike I have only one player in my list.

Yeah, can't say I've ever noticed her do anything unsporting. Very fair and fast when serving, etc.

Lisicki is serving the way Serena should have. Very powerful. Also a joy to watch a women's match with zero grunting/shrieking and two pretty ladies helps too :)

I must say that in the end I am happy with Simona's win today (of course). But...she needs to raise at least more 10% of her current level. She knows and feels that better than me, I am sure :) Just human after all

Discussion going on with official and both players regarding the light on court and whether both players feel they should play on?

Serena will learn from it and bounce back. She just lost touch with real tennis. It happens all the time to players. They think they are in the right place even if they arent. Sloane, Kerber last year, Kvitova, Ana 2 years ago... all these players thought they are doing things right while they were doing them wrong.
WE LEARN...

How could I forget Angie as a potential cheat slayer? Kerber is tough and can do the business with her solid game.
Comn Angie! :)

Kerber's a chronic choker though. To be honest before this match was on I'd forgotten about Lisicki. I like Ivanovic too but doubt she's good enough to win the whole thing so change my preferences of winners to Halep, Bouchard or Lisicki and no real favourite out of those 3 either.
