Somehow, I feel that this Wimbledon might be very boring just like the RG16. No, I am not saying this just because Roger is not a serious contender.

Also, we have the bad omen of rain delay on the opening day of quals that delayed play by more than 5 hours.

Agreed. Any tournament without Federer fully fit is already well below par. Nadal is out too but hasn't done any damage at Wimbledon since 2011 so it's not such a glaring hole in the draw. Having the finalist of the last 2 years unable to move properly and losing to guys like Thiem and Zverev lately does not bode well. With a good draw Raonic may make the semis but I'm expecting another hideous Djokovic v Murray final here but actually think that one could be swayed more in Murray's favour on grass and with home crowd support. Nothing to do with Lendl who I think adds nothing except placebo to Murray but placebo can be good too. But who knows.

Zverev has not yet won a 250 title and yet managed to break into the bookies contenders list.
I was wondering whether anyone knows of a player who won a GS before winning any other title.
Probably not. But, I don't know as a matter of fact.

OTTH, I thought maybe Chang in '89 @ FO, but looked him up & he won SF tourney on carpet the previous season over Johan Kriek! I knew it wasn't Becker because I remember him taking Queens before Wimbledon in '85!

Sorry Front but Nadal out is a huge handicap for the tournament. I mean, how the hell can we have that much fun in the first week now?

If I recall correctly, Kuerten's first FO win was his first title[?]

Among the four losses, I enjoyed the one delivered by Brown the most. This is because it was not so much of an accident ond a well thought out and well executed plan to show the door. Next in my list comes Rosol with boom boom serves with almost no time to breath in between and throw in a brush for added good measure. Next is Kyrgios. Somehow I did not enjoy Darcis delivering the blow that much. But, I guess he is the one who started the trend.

Second round of Quals is over.

Q. Halys and D. Brands won.

A. Falla (the guy who took RF to 5 sets in opener at Wimby a few years ago), M. Berrer (Rafa Slayer) and Rublev (teenager) lost.

The third and final round of quals is scheduled for tomorrow with the draw ceremony on Friday.
Unlike in other grand slams, the final round of qualifying is a best of five sets affairs in Wimbledon.
I like these features of Wimbledon. Also, Wimbledon is the only slam where Men's doubles is a 5 set affair throughout (no three set business, no super tie breaker business).

Yes, it was. Prior to that he had only won one challenger.

I thought there must be none. Now, we have two.

So, may be the bookies are not totally stupid. :)

Can anyone help me with the following questions? My husband is flying to Wimbledon to watch Federer. He bought a seat in Center Court for two consecutive days. Does anyone know whether Federer has been assigned to a court other than Center Court in the last few years? If bad luck strikes and he can't watch his matches, are ticket holders allowed to see him practice?

This is the third time my husband is going to Wimbledon. The first two times, he missed him because Fed lost to Berdych and Stakovsky. Any insights would be appreciated since he is spending a small fortune trying to see him at this tournament.

I don't know the answers to all your questions. If the primary intention is to see Fed playing, I would recommend getting tickets for the first week, considering Fed's current form. He may not last long if you are getting tickets for the finals or semifinals.

Fed is very rarely scheduled outside the center court. This year it should become easier than normal to schedule him in the center court as Rafa is not even showing up.

RG has a unwritten policy of scheduling one match of each big guy on Suzanne instead of Philip. Wimby does not have such unwritten policy and could potentially schedule all Fed's matches in the center court.

Also, one more thing is going in your favor. As nobody knows how long Fed will last, they will probably schedule all the early matches of him also in Center court as they might not want to take a chance.

With a bit of Google I found out that in 2014 he played his opening match at court 1.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvPVuwLMv-8

I just googled 'Federer Wimbledon "court 1" ' ("court 1" in double quotes so he looks for the exact string court 1, not "court" and "1" separately). If you look deeper in the results of this search maybe you may find more matches outside center court. But we can already see that there is in fact a chance he might play not only at center court...

Fed is treated like a God at Wimby. He will mainly be on Centre. The past few years, they relegated him to Court 1 a couple of times, but like GSM says w/ no Rafa there to share CC; Fed and Andy will be on CC for every round and I can see them even sending Novak to court 1 before they send Fed or Andy.

How long Roger is going to last in this tournament, one week?
