Stan's problem isn't the girlfriend. He's doing basically as well as he ever did in his career. When he defended his Oz title last year, he went out lamely at the end against Djokovic in the semis, and he did the same thing this year in Paris against Murray. The bloke was never all-that, so we can point at him and say a decline on his part is because of some bird. There's no decline, there's just typical old irregular Stan...

EDIT: Dimitrov? Well he's a bloke who sold us all a pony years ago. He's a typical lightweight who allowed the reflected light from the junkie dominatrix to dazzle him...

Nice to see you back my friend.
I completely agree with you about Stan. This girlfriend issue is overblown. Stan is in fact playing better now than all his career leading up to 2014-15, when he peaked.
Compare now to where he was in 2012 for example, and you see a player with better results at 31 than at 27, which is not exactly normal.
His capacity to bring to high end results is there, but rarely materialized. But he still is a clear top 5 player, and he was never close to that before 2014.
Even in 2014, when he won a slam and a master, in between he had major dips, and those were not caused by chasing some young chicks.

In view of Rafa's withdrawal, most probably the top eight seeds at Wimby this year will be as follows.

1. Novak
2. Andy
3. Fed
4. Stan
5. Kei
6. Milos
7. Gasquet
8. Berdych

This is taking into consideration, the grass points. But, I only did approximate calculations.
Thiem will not be in top 8 as he did not do much in grass before. Gasquet reached SF last year
and Milos reached SF the year before.

p.s. Up to 7 is certain, although who is 5, 6 or 7 can change between the same group. However, for 8th seed there will be tough and close fight between Berdych and Thiem.

With Thiem already reaching final at Stuttgart and being scheduled to play in Halle, it looks more and more like Thiem will get #8 seed and Berdych will lose it.

In last year's Wimby Thiem lost in 2nd round and Berdych in 4th round. That addition is going to be compensated by Thiem's Stuttgart points (which will actually be doubled as per the grass formula).
Although Thiem is generally overplaying, in this case he made the right decision. Playing two warm ups on grass (unlike Berdych) is going to fetch him the coveted #8 seed at Wimby.

If Fed does not win Halle also, he will be going into Wimbledon without winning a title (not just on grass, but for the whole year). If that be the case, I would put his chances of winning Wimby to be very minimal.

It looks like he has trouble keeping his level high for a long time, which surely will be exacerbated in five set matches.

Well duh! That's why we've been talking abut his age and lack of play! Some think he'll contend until the day he retires; I say the end is near!  :p

Can't help agreeing with this. Even if he wins Halle, his chances at Wimbledon are minimal. A Wimbledon victory is a pipe dream at this point. He wants to give himself a chance on experience alone. But winning Wimbledon without a second gear?

Andy is reuniting with Lendl. Hmmm...

Never bought into the hype personally. Andy's wins were largely helped by fatigued opponents (Wimbledon and Olympics) and very bad wind at the USO which he handled much better than Djokovic. What's Lendl gonna be able to do except say I'm not a pushover like Mauresmo so don't curse in my direction you ignorant ****. Calming him down would help but Murray should be able to do that himself. Of all the slams out there though, Murray's best chance is Wimbledon with the crowd support and if he serves well the surface means more aces as it's harder to return on grass.

Oh I agree, I think it is more peace of mind for Andy more than anything he can do differently against Djokovic. I think Djokovic will probably let loose and hopefully play some of his most relaxed and inspired tennis now that Roland Garros is off his back.

I think it's a significant change for Murray. He was doing great under Lendl, then he had back surgery, took time out, then Lendl left him, and his spine became like something French during a war. He's been more or less hammered every time he's stepped on court with Novak since his back op (13-2) whereas before this, the H2H was 11-8 in Novak's favour. Even worse than this, the Octogenarian, in his dotage, has amassed a six straight victories against the much younger man, with the loss of only a single set. It didn't help that Murray had a relatively insignificant woman swimming in the deep end, when she's built better for the shallows, but Andy has become a lighter touch in this period, he fades far too easily, he lacks belief that he can beat the very best at the very highest levels, and he lacks mental stamina too.

Lendl will have a positive effect on Murray, and the timing is very good...

I wouldn't go that far yet, as he made the final the last two years. The only reason I would guess he doesn't do that well at Wimbledon this years is lack of play, etc.

Hilarious downplaying of Federer alright. Since 2014 he's made 3 slam semis and 3 slam finals. Most would kill for those results unless you think this way.

So, we have as many as three new coaching arrangements being made at the eve of Wimby.
Andy with Lendl, Man with Krajicek and Milos with JMac. Everybody is making Wimbledon a priority. Hope, we get to see a few interesting matches at Wimby unlike the #MostBoringGS also known as #RG16.

After Rafa's withdrawal and first couple of warm-up tourneys, it is time to check with the bookies. Here are the latest odds.

1. Novak 4/5
2. Andy 7/2
3. Federer 12
4. Milos 22
5. Nick Kyrgios 25
6. Stan the Man 33
7. Nishikori 40
8. Thiem 50
9. JMDP 70

All other players have way too terrible odds (120 or below).

For comparison, here are the odds from a week ago . Novak's odds remain the same. Andy improved a bit and Fed declined a bit. Thiem who was not even in the list of contenders before, made it there.

Interesting to see that bookies are taking JMDP seriously despite the fact that he is yet to establish himself among the elite after his recent injury time out and is ranked beyond the 100.

I think even with Lendl in his corner that Murray is going to find this Djokovic difficult. Djokovic has found his footing where as when Murray won his slams Djokovic still had his doubts and was there more for the taking. Djokovic doesn't seem to be giving away too many gifts of late where he squandered winning positions in the past.
