not a surprise.. I hope he heals soon and returns to action.. my thoughts that he will return for the Rio games and then not be able to complete US Open

I have the same thoughts, his uncle says two days ego:"he is still recovering of the wrist injury and we don't want endanger his participation in the Olympics Games".
Well, he already has the Golden Medal but I hope his decision is correct and if he plays in Rio is because he is completely recovered and fitted, otherwise it wouldn't make any sense

so the Rio games are more important to Rafa than a grand slam title.. Maybe its me but that's asinine but that's Rafa and his team.. Unlike Rafa, The NBA players here are pulling out of the Rio games
because they want to be ready to prepare properly for the upcoming season.

Really? I hadn't heard that! I expect a lot more to find a reason not to go! Savanah Guthrie of NBC is pregnant and informed all concerned she isn't going! :nono  :dodgy:

Nadal has just announced that he won't play Wimbledon and Tsonga withdrawn from Queens......next?

Although expected, sorry to hear the announcement. Hope he heals soon. Might be a good idea for him to skip Olympics (especially with the Zika threat).

None taken! I was one of the few who dismissed and thought it terrible to allow rich pros to go and participate in what's supposed to be an amateur sport! I'd just assume Nole skip this event; do DC if he wants, but blow off RIO! It just isn't worth it! If he doesn't, I guess the naysayers will make a big deal out of the other "Big 4" having an OG medal; Roger's in doubles though! :nono  :cover

In view of Rafa's withdrawal, most probably the top eight seeds at Wimby this year will be as follows.

1. Novak
2. Andy
3. Fed
4. Stan
5. Kei
6. Milos
7. Gasquet
8. Berdych

This is taking into consideration, the grass points. But, I only did approximate calculations.
Thiem will not be in top 8 as he did not do much in grass before. Gasquet reached SF last year
and Milos reached SF the year before.

p.s. Up to 7 is certain, although who is 5, 6 or 7 can change between the same group. However, for 8th seed there will be tough and close fight between Berdych and Thiem.

Said it before and I'll say it again. He'll skip the Olympics 100% I'll be honestly shocked if he plays.

Tis is what Rafa has more interest than anything else but I wouldn't mind if he would skip it for the second time

I guess he was not leader of the pack in 2008. In 2012 and now again they have nominated him as the leader of the pack. That is why he is interested, I suppose.

Well if it makes him happy to represent his country and be the Flag bearer then so be it. He is definitely at a stage of his career where he can pick to do things that makes his heart happy

I'm so bummed out that Rafa won't be playing at Wimbledon. I was really looking forward to seeing him lose in the first or second round.

I was jesting, dear Carol. But what exactly is going to "come around?" Roger's already a geezer. At this point I don't expect much from him, but just enjoy watching him play.

Including 2016, Rafa has been on tour for 14 years. Of the 14 years, he missed at least one slam in 8 years. So, in 6 years he achieved calendar year grand slam. :snicker

I see Wawa is trying to get a leg up and get Wimbledon 2016 by adding Krajiceck to his coaching staff for Wimbledon. Keep that one slam a year tradition and career slam in the making going.

Doubt any coach will do much at this stage for Wawrinka. He's 31 now and his level is down a lot since RG last year.
