It's gonna be hot as hell next week in London so I'm sure we'll see a few players male and female getting heat exhaustion and underperforming or losing early as a result.

I think "hot as hell" is relative. Maybe for London. Wednesday looks bad, (high 95/35C, and the only day over 90,) but otherwise, high 70s, mid-to-high 80s (26-31C) is not that harsh on tennis players, especially without humidity.

Actually 72 to 78 is considered ideal temperature for normal living. So, the temps are not really bad. Definitely nothing compared to AO.

....esp. since playing on grass is never as hot and grueling as playing on Hard Court! :dodgy: :popcorn :ras:

Only if he did something wrong, would he have to be "smarter about it." He's not responsible for the way fans think. This is one of the barmiest indirect slurs on Rafa from a Fedfan I've ever seen, and that's going some...

It's actually a bigger slur on Ferrer, as he would be the "conspirator." I have no doubt that elite athletes are pretty self-involved and that huge decisions like skipping a major as a Top-10 seed are not taken lightly, nor involve smoky back-room deals. The sensible way to take it is on face value.

Maybe Mother Nature is trying to give an competitive advantage to the Spanish players who likes their tennis balls to bounce higher with excessive topspin

I can't tell by your emoticons if this comment is facetious or genuine, but asphalt/cement does absorb and hold heat more than grass. (Not sure about clay, but I'd guess less, as a natural, more "breathable" surface.)

I wonder what the humidity is like on Centre Court, being all closed in like that and all. Have to think it can get pretty hot.

The chance of rain is around 0%, which implies low humidity. Maybe the close human factor raises it a bit. ;) All arenas are "bowls," which do concentrate heat, to some extent. On-court temperature can be hotter than the general one, but I don't think the humidity changes, which is the real enervator for athletes.

Commentators said in the past you can add on up to 5C court side versus the actual air temp, so hence why I said hot as hell. Weds will be closer to 40C on centre court and the other days closer to 35C, so that's still pretty manky for playing best of 5. Humidity is definitely gonna be more bearable on the smaller courts than centre.

I'm just wondering about this Ferrer thing... since he clearly knew that he was going to withdraw, I'm guessing he's known it since before yesterday. Did he somehow know he would land in Rafa's section? Or maybe he thought it's possible and decided to hold off on making the announcement just in case...and as luck would have it, he ended up in Rafa's section.

Questions, questions...

I would think it's called common courtesy for fellow athletes but hey what do I know? I'm just a paranoid fanatic with a wacky theory on a tennis forum. I guess we should just close everything down since on your line of thinking none of our discussions have any meaning here. ;)

Wait, what? I never said what we say here has no meaning. I said it should have no meaning to a professional tennis player. Then again, maybe I'm wrong and Roger has Mirka browsing these forums as we speak while he takes the older set of twins for a walk across London.

So yeah, Ferrer should have zero care for what conspiracy theories a few fans come up with. And courtesy for fellow athletes how? He pulled out. He didn't really affect them. It was his own personal decision and as a courtesy for himself, I'm assuming he gave himself every chance to play the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world before finally making what is easily one of the most difficult decisions of his career...

From what little I watched of Berdych, he should be gone as well! Chardy, like most of these pros never can finish; truly had chances with those TB's, but choked it away! :cover :nono

No offense to Djokovic fans. But I feel something is lacking in his game right now in Wimbledon as compared to that Novak we saw in French open. may be consistency or many UE...does any1 feel the same?
I hope he picks up soon since the draw is nicely opened up for him...

No player is immune from "playing down to an opponent!" Nole obviously didn't feel threatened or he would have taken the match more seriously!  :dodgy: :popcorn :ras:

No offense to Djokovic fans. But I feel something is lacking in his game right now in Wimbledon as compared to that Novak we saw in French open. may be consistency or many UE...does any1 feel the same?
I hope he picks up soon since the draw is nicely opened up for him...

You can't win a slam in the first week, but you sure can lose one. He's playing week 1 tennis. I wouldn't be overly concerned until he faces a more formidable opponent. Let's see if he raises his level then.
