I voted for Petra. I believe Serena is not ready and Petra will take it.

May I ask you why you feel 'Serena is not ready'?

I have picked Kvitova as my Dark Horse,it is her fourth consecutive year making the YEC
She has a outstanding indoor record. She does not however have a good h2h against either Serena or Maria.

Well, she hasn't played many matches recently, has she. I think the time when Serena didn't appear for some time and then was playing excellently from the beginning of a tourney is over. But of course, she can lose one matcht in RR and then be all right in the semis and finals. But that's the general scenario. I wanted to make it different:cool:. It can turn up any way.

I think Cavly post regarding Serena on this page might answer your questions why you dont feel 'Serena is Ready',another key is the motivation for Serena to win the YEC and thus clinching the No 1 position for 2014.Another reason is she has a winning h2h against the other players at the YEC this year.Just my thoughts on this matter. You of course are welcome to your own opinion.

Going into YEC last year in Turkey, Serena had 13260 points to her name and Beijing under her belt, this year she has 8645 points going into Singapore and picked up an injury in Beijing.

I know the potential is there but is everything else there as well?

Let's be honest, u question Serena regardless the situation. So, she could be in perfect condition and you'd have question marks.

You mentioned no one has won the YEC three straight years since Martina N, well, no one had won the USO since Christie since the 70's, Serena did it.

Serena has paid her dues and owns that group going to Singapore like no other....she can win the event with her hands tied behind her back especially pova and Aga..She can beat pova back to back to back.

Fashion, are you sure about the math? I think Pova can do worse than make the final and still get the top ranking even if Serena wins the title.

From what I gathered as long as Serena does what Li did last year and wins all three round robin rounds and makes it to the final she still bests Sharapova even if Sharapova performs flawlessly and wins every round. With Serena's points coming off if she were to win all three rounds and make the finals she would be at 8195. If Maria were to go undefeated and win and get the full 1500, then she would be at 8180. So it really depends on both Maria and Serena performing flawlessly in the round robin. However, one tiny mess up from either can cause the loss/gain of number 1. Serena would come out ahead by 15 points if the first scenario I mentioned happens.

May I ask how you formed that opinion please?

We are on the same page there.I redid the maths...I came to the same solution as I posted before with the same points as well.

Though if I am wrong,I have no problem with that at all.

Here are the current odd of different players winning the event as per bookies.

Serena Williams 6/4
Maria Sharapova 4
Petra Kvitova 5
Ana Ivanovic 8
Caroline Wozniacki 10

This translates to roughly Serena 40%, Maria and Petra 20% each, Ana and Caro 10% each.

If Fashion and Sunday went through the calculations and agree, they must be right. I did not crunch the numbers, but it struck me as odd that Serena, defending and thereby getting zero points added, can top Pova who has no points to defend.

When does the draw come out?

It is odd 10sfan. I was even a little surprised. Of the two, Serena stands the better shot of doing things perfectly. I want to know what the groupings look like.

I am a bit surprised that the bookies didnt give any odds for Halep?
Seeing I always love a underdog,I would love a bet on Halep....

Isn't 6/4 66%? If so, then they are quite confident about Serena title there.

Serena wins it all. She loves having something to motivate her. And although she knows, as does everyone else, that no matter her rank she is the best player in the world, she likes the number 1 next to her name. The question is who can hang on to number 2: once there was Vika, then Li Na, Then Halep and now Maria.

I wondered about Serena's health, but she looks in great spirits and tweeting pictures away. Go Rena! Looking forward to her playing Sharapova. :clap

Petra lost because pova is her idol..:lolz:..and was very passive..She only wakes up for Venus or Serena.I am always disappointed that she doesnt play to win against pova...just like she never used to play Na li hard because she was scared of the chinese s sponsors....what a weak mentality..:nono

The main issue is the condition of Serena's knee? from the reports I have been reading of late,it has been promising.Of course this is 'still up in the air',the question I feel will be answered when Serena takes the court in her first match at the YEC in ways.

Shouldn't the knee issue come up first in case Serena loses a match or fails to win the YEC? - It's way to early to use that card already dude since the "viral illness" card has already been used to it's full this year

Apparently you didnt read my email to you, when you came on the post after Beijing and Maria won?

I will again remind you,I am not a fan that gets into any discussion,or uses excuses if that player loses, even if there is a injury cloud okay.Do I make myself clear on this subject.I dont want have to repeat myself again.

BTW I have always been of the opinion with any player,if they take the court,to me they are fit and healthy.
