Re: hydroxychloroquine + Azithromycin
There are indeed a few hospitals here that are testing this protocol (it is important to remark that is not only hydroxychloroquine). Yes, the early results are encouraging (but still early). I am not sure worldwide, but here I can say with some certainty: is not touted as a cure, it is (hopefully) a very useful tool to prevent patients with more acute symptoms to get even worst and end up in a ventilator. In this situation it has proven (so far) very effective -- which is good, given how precious ventilators are.
The bad thing is that, following what happened in the US, here our parrot in chief instantly echoed Trump's words about it, so, as is happening in the US, it also became political. Rumors are spreading that some hospital deliberately chose to test other protocols just because the mega-asshole Bolsonaro pronounced its name, which is something completely idiotic.
Can you imagine the world if this protocol ends up being efficient and the Russians develop a vaccine?
Or this is a complete coincidence. The people taking these drugs may have ended up in the same place even if they had never taken these drugs.
If someone with the flu, takes an antacid, then gets better, that doesn’t mean the antacid was the cure. It was just a coincidence.
