Yes, Italy has an older population, and that is a factor, but you keep burying your head in the sand about exponential contagion rates and the pressure it puts on health services.

Britbox, you continue to make this point as though it is some kind of trenchant insight. No kidding the number of cases is going to grow. But that is only part of the picture. You keep talking about how there will be a growing number of cases without addressing whether they are even severe. There is a plethora of data showing that they are not and will not be severe.

So then the question becomes: is that worth shutting the global economy down over? I argue emphatically not.

Mad. I just don't get this toilet roll buying pandemic... unless they are expecting toilet rolls to replace the US dollar as the world's reserve currency after all this is done. I guess the Economic fallout could be that bad... :astonished-face:

Apparently (I have not fact checked), hoarding toilet rolls in Australia is somewhat within reason. Toilet rolls are basically imported and not made in Australia. So, the supply chain might be thought of as fragile.

However, the USA folks have absolutely no reason to hoard toilet papers. It is all made locally from pulp and the supply chain has less moving parts to fear disruption. The whole demand is created purely due to panic buying and not due to shortage of the item.

Just to be clear, you're openly anti-Muslim and anti-gay. Please stop referring to other people as bigots.

Oh okay. So the only forms of bigotry that could possibly exist (or matter) are antagonism toward Islam or "gays." Sure. So hating another country (as you do the United States) while making ignorant comments about it could not be bigotry. Nor could smearing all those you politically oppose with ignorant generalities while knowing next to nothing about their ideas (as you do with white right-wingers in the United States). Nope, the only form of bigotry that could possibly exist is antagonism toward Islamic jihadists and gays. Sure.

In fact, you have LITERALLY stated, ironically, that the only thing you're on the side of Muslims on is their treatment of homosexuals: ie killing them.

No, I never said that's the only thing I'm on the side of Muslims on. That's you putting words in my mouth. I have absolutely no problem with the social morality of regular Muslim countries. I think that Iraq under Saddam, for instance, was a country of decent Muslim people whose lives were criminally interrupted and destroyed by the U.S. intervention. Many Muslims in the Middle East practice Christian morality better than most Americans do.

So please, if you want someone dead because of where they choose to stick their dick, you're in no position to lecture anyone.

I have never advocated murdering homosexuals. What I don't believe in is normalizing and then glorifying their behavior, which is what your white leftist idols in the West have done. Also, to reduce sexual acts just to where someone "sticks their dick" - as if it has no social consequences - shows how pitifully shallow your mind actually is.

I understand you're a virgin (not using that as an insult, just complimenting you on being a practicing catholic who respects the 10 commandments), but you don't have to hate everyone who gets laid...gays, women, etc... just food for thought.

Okay, I chose not to be mean on the other thread, but here I will be. I have always maintained that you are, fundamentally, a corny nerd. You think your jokes are funny, but they're not. A few years ago I pissed you off by pointing out that you just state cliches and that you're boring. In response, you have tried to add more flare and pizzazz to your commentary, by doing things like typing your words with 20 extra letters for effect. I am sorry to inform you that it isn't doing a very good job in deceiving anyone. Now there is someone in the world for everyone, so I'm sure that at some point you found a girl who embraced you despite your clear shortcomings. This boosted your ego and made you feel like you can stick your chest out. So I am here to tell you that I'm proud of you for that. It shows you're a big boy. And I will acknowledge that you are more manly than Federberg. That's a low bar. But I'll give it to you.

As for myself, I have to say I have been very blessed and very fortunate with an array of talents and special qualities. Those have allowed me to attract the numerous women I have been intimate with over the years. Numerous races, numerous memories, so many great times. They were one of the main reasons I took so many long breaks from this board. I'm very thankful for them, and I'm very thankful that I have so many gifts you don't. If it wasn't for those gifts, the experiences with these various women (almost all of whom were 10's) would not have been possible. Just thinking of this makes me grateful. Very grateful.

And, on that somber note, I will just end by saying: I think tented is an idiot.

Over 60% of toilet rolls in Australia are made in Australia. There is no reason to hoard them.

I know most cases aren't severe, the vast majority of people will be fine. It's purely a numbers game.

Critical Cases at any given time v Resources to treat critical cases at that given time.

Then, it's factoring in levels of intervention and the moral and ethical duties of government.

Right, and the moral and ethical duties of government also include considering the economic impact on the majority of people in their society.

I know it's difficult for you to compute but just about the first duty of every government is to protect the lives of the citizens. Economic well being is hugely important but no government can prioritise economic well being over life. Being a Trump supporter I can well imagine this is tough for you to rationalise but there it is. Even your fearless leader has had to acknowledge this reality. At some point you will too. But we all know that you won't have the spine to admit it on here. Meanwhile we'll put up with your shit, what other choice do we have, short of blocking you?

Because you are a complete simpleton who thought that members of the Trump administration would be assassinated on January 3rd, let me explain two things to you, very quickly: 1) this virus is nowhere near as dangerous as you and others are making it out to be, and 2) if you want to talk about protecting human life, you may want to take into consideration the possibility of mass social chaos in the form of violence and crime that is very possible if people are kept out of work for an extended period. That can take human lives very quickly too but apparently that possibility has flown right over your small head.

Even your fearless leader has had to acknowledge this reality.

Trump declared a public health emergency on January 31st and enacted a travel ban on non-U.S. citizens on February 2nd while misinformed nerdlings like yourself were obsessed with impeachment. Trump treated this seriously far before you even gave it any thought.

Meanwhile we'll put up with your shit, what other choice do we have, short of blocking you?

That's perfectly fine. Unlike you, I have not been here everyday for the last 5 years. Far from it. I was busy spending time with various women during that time, among other things. By the way, did you find Daisy's paddle?

You REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY need to read up more on the topics you seem to feel so strongly about.

Someone who expands words by 20 letters for added effect thinks he is funny and questions the ability of others to attract the opposite sex.

The only way to stop Trump IMO. I'm inclined to blame the failing NY Times, Washington Post, and the Fake News media.

It's quite funny when someone is far closer to the truth when they are being sarcastic than when they are being sincere. But, allow me to ask, how is the preferred presidential candidate of CNN and MSNBC in 2018 (Michael Avenatti) faring these days? Did they call that one accurately?

Notes a friend took in Hong kong at an interesting lunch. You might find interesting....

I just attended a lunch with the head of the Infectious Diseases Dept of HKU, Dr Ivan Hung. I took some notes which I thought you might be interested in:
Lunch w Dr. Ivan Hung, Chief - Infectious Diseases Dept, HKU
1. 4% mortality, likely only 1% if adj for skewed low denominator in US (low test rate) vs 37% MERS/10% SARS
2. 5-10% Cases considered "severe cases" w diminished lung function requiring intubation
3. Virus Life:
(a) Window Period (initial infection): 3-4 days - no viral shedding
(b) Asymptomatic Period : up to 21 days but median 7-10
(c) Presentation w Symptoms
4. Notwithstanding 3(c) * *70% infected remain asymptomatic **
5. Given #4 mask wearing is key, BOTH to prevent spreading AND contacting (due to asymptomatic period /carriers
6. Average infection ratio: 1 : 2.7
7. Long Term affects of survivors:
(a) lung xrays: 90% clear; CAT scan data still being collected
(b) permanently lung damage for 5-10% of severe cases, due to viral damage or physical damage from intubation
(c) mostly expect full recovery - even from glass lung patterns
(d) all have antibodies present
8. Severe cases:
(a) prone populations (elderly, pre-existing conditions which cause slower clearing of viral load eg diabetes)
(b) delayed treatment (eg 14 days) -
9. Hk currently :
(a) All HA beds full
(b) 200 symptomatic cases yesterday alone (mostly imported) - 80% released
(c) labs open 24/7, test results in 2hrs
10. Looking ahead :
(a) Summer lull?? TBD come approx July
(b) Winter resurgence?? TBD, will look to AU/S. Africa come their winter
(c) Estimate 30% HK population will have antibodies come winter 2020(aka 30% will have been infected with or wo symptoms by then)
(d) Treatment : Kaleria / Rendesivir under trial and show promise
(e) Vaccine : 1-2y out

There are hundreds of stories like this piling up right now. I wonder if the sanctimonious hypocrite Britbox will get on his moral high horse about sympathy for other people as hundreds of thousands of regular people lose their jobs in the days and weeks ahead because of a total overreaction to a disease that is not as potent as it is being made out to be.

Sympathy doesn't need to be a zero-sum game. Maybe you could take your head out of your own ass and see what's unfolding in Europe right now. I'm sure those good folk in Italy will be all ears listening to you pontificating that this whole thing is a creation of the Washington Post.

I'd imagine most of them made risk assessments factoring in health, economics, morals, and ethics. It's highly unlikely they made snap decisions based on a couple of Washington Post articles or Heather MacDonald's blog.

By the way, Cali, who is responsible for the decision to close borders in the United States?
