I thought that was virtually the case anyway. Never mind international travel, we're not even supposed to leave our suburb for non-essentials.
you would think, but there's still a decent amount of travel going on. Not everywhere has closed yet. And as an example Trump is apparently thinking about curbing "stay at home" to avoid an economic rout

FYI... Fed signalling unlimited QE. Stocks jumped much higher following that news. We've been waiting for some sort of decent rally for a week now. I think that's inevitable before we go even lower. That tends to be the norm in bear markets

I'm guessing QE will be rampant across the globe for every country with its own currency. What's your considered guess for the Eurozone?

the ECB has already pretty much indicated that EU countries can issue as many bonds as they want. So they're already on board. There's not much the ECB can do in terms of rate cuts, so this makes a lot of sense. I agree with you by the way, the self interested actions of EU nations, particularly Germany have been pretty shameful. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in the aftermath. As far as I can see there is no European Union to speak of!

Oh okay. So the only forms of bigotry that could possibly exist (or matter) are antagonism toward Islam or "gays." Sure. So hating another country (as you do the United States) while making ignorant comments about it could not be bigotry. Nor could smearing all those you politically oppose with ignorant generalities while knowing next to nothing about their ideas (as you do with white right-wingers in the United States). Nope, the only form of bigotry that could possibly exist is antagonism toward Islamic jihadists and gays. Sure.

Lol @ me hating the US.

I hate right wing racists, including your president. Big difference.

I have never advocated murdering homosexuals. What I don't believe in is normalizing and then glorifying their behavior, which is what your white leftist idols in the West have done. Also, to reduce sexual acts just to where someone "sticks their dick" - as if it has no social consequences - shows how pitifully shallow your mind actually is.

Okay, I chose not to be mean on the other thread, but here I will be. I have always maintained that you are, fundamentally, a corny nerd. You think your jokes are funny, but they're not. A few years ago I pissed you off by pointing out that you just state cliches and that you're boring. In response, you have tried to add more flare and pizzazz to your commentary, by doing things like typing your words with 20 extra letters for effect. I am sorry to inform you that it isn't doing a very good job in deceiving anyone. Now there is someone in the world for everyone, so I'm sure that at some point you found a girl who embraced you despite your clear shortcomings. This boosted your ego and made you feel like you can stick your chest out. So I am here to tell you that I'm proud of you for that. It shows you're a big boy. And I will acknowledge that you are more manly than Federberg. That's a low bar. But I'll give it to you.

And, on that somber note, I will just end by saying: I think tented is an idiot.

This moron actually thinks that I changed the way I post (which is bullshit) because of him.

As for myself, I have to say I have been very blessed and very fortunate with an array of talents and special qualities. Those have allowed me to attract the numerous women I have been intimate with over the years. Numerous races, numerous memories, so many great times. They were one of the main reasons I took so many long breaks from this board. I'm very thankful for them, and I'm very thankful that I have so many gifts you don't. If it wasn't for those gifts, the experiences with these various women (almost all of whom were 10's) would not have been possible. Just thinking of this makes me grateful. Very grateful.

I have no problem with the idea that this came from a Chinese wet market. The way different species are stacked in cages on top of each other spreading urine and feces, the unsanitary conditions, human exposure to blood and other bodily fluids, etc. — it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if all of this originated there. The question is how/if they can be convinced to alter their ways in order to prevent this happening in the future.

Finally... the Olympics will be postponed

Officially? I can’t find anything which confirms this. Canada and Australia have pulled out, and the IOC is said to be in talks of what to do next, but I haven’t found an official statement of cancellation.

Saw something run across on CNN, might be wrong as I don't see any other outlets confirming yet

Just for you guys have some idea of the level of idiocy of our president here, he, as recently as two days ago, was still referring to the Covid-19, during an official government announcement, as a little flu.

Big cities in Brazil have a population density about 10 times higher than northern Italy (really). Above that, no basic sanitary conditions for large swaths of the population. Can you imagine the carnage if the little flu spreads in those regions?

I swear I looked at the US corona virus numbers this morning and there were less than 40,000 cases and less than 400 deaths. Now it's 41,700+ cases and 507 deaths. This is a nightmare...

I heard a BBC story today on Sao Paolo today. The health care workers there, like everywhere, are worried that they don't have the resources, and the conditions in the favelas are set up for bad outcomes. "A little flu," indeed.

The chief medical officer in São Paulo state (which capital is São Paulo city) has just tested positive for Coivd-19. The number of cases here is extremely under-valued as we had a small number of test kit available, so the reality until now is that only patients with symptoms are tested, and they are first tested for other things (like H1N1), and if those come out positive, they are not tested for Covid (even if they could have both).

One move by the central government today backfired immensely: they advanced the annual flu vaccination by two months, starting today. That is good in principle as the symptoms are similar (so you should have less suspected cases). What happened? People rushed to get the vaccine and you had massive agglomerations of people

This is my question. As I said above, it's not what you eat, but how it's regulated. Those among us who are vegetarians, you can shine your halos now, but for those of us who eat meat, there is no looking down our noses on those who eat tarantulas or dogs or crickets or bats, if they are a source of protein for poor people. The big issues are two: a.) If the animals are "exotics," there is no regulation over how they are raised, treated, slaughtered or handled before or when they are sold, which leads to disease, and b.) even more domesticated food animals can be poorly handled in the sale of them, and this also leads to disease.

In a global market, it behooves us to enforce certain sanitary norms on China and otherwise Asian markets. For their sake, and ours. Apparently we still import chicken from China, and you do have to question that.

On another thread I made the single suggestion/hope of their not eating bats anymore. They have been the source of other significant health problems. If people would leave this one species alone, the world would avoid some coronaviruses.

I do know that. And maybe that is one answer. But if people want to eat bats, perhaps they could be farmed and raised healthfully. Pigs were a problem, too, until people learned how to raise and cook them properly. (Well, and their still a problem, if they aren't raised and cooked properly. But we don't think they're weird to eat.)
