Of all the arguments that Republicans have used to defend Trump against Impeachment, today and before, one I very strongly disagree with is the notion that this action risks further inflaming division and potentially inspiring more violence. Even reasonable people asked about risking more violence, prior to today. To me, that would be allowing this violent fringe to hold us hostage in our choices out of fear of them. But there was also a lot of "what-aboutism," including trying to equate this with BLM protests, (many fewer of which turned violent than the Republicans like to tout,) and a lot of downplaying of what Trump said. One member said, "All the president did was call for peaceful and patriotic protest." He DID say that, but that is to ignore everything else he said, and has said across the past months, and all of his 4 years in office.
