Cali, this is a ridiculously partisan post. Take off your Trump-defending goggles for a second and let's talk about it reasonably. Firstly, by "more testing," I mean two things...a)the COVID test (active virus) and b) the anti-body test. I should think you'd be in favor of both. As to A: the more we test patients and cadavers, the more we know for sure, rather than the "presumed COVID" cases and deaths that you object to. Much more importantly than the politics of it, it's the only way for scientists, down the road, to assess the virus, its spread and impact, properly. As to B: while there is as yet no guaranteed confirmation that the presence of anti-bodies guarantees immunity, it will allow for much greater freedom of movement and going back to work/normalcy with some degree of confidence. That is total nonsense. This is one of the dumbest talking points of the Democrats, i.e. that we need more and more "testing." All that will do is confirm what we already know from multiple studies, starting with the Stanford study in mid-March that I cited: that there are far more asymptomatic carriers than have been officially documented, which will cause the official number of cases to skyrocket. What this will do in turn is provide Democrats even more excuses to extend shutdowns and destroy the economy before the election.
There is no need for testing everyone and anyone under the sun. There is a need to test those who show symptoms and are actually sick. Beyond that, this idiotic campaign for "MORE TESTING!!!!!" is unnecessary and simply an excuse to make a big deal out of what we already know, namely that there are millions of asymptomatic carriers. All that Democrats plan to do is take those numbers and use them to promote even more fear and irrational hysteria.
The phrase "asymptomatic carriers" gets bandied about a lot. My understanding is that this might even be when a person is most contagious. That's why the masks and the social distancing. However, as I also understand it, the majority of people who have contracted the virus do experience some symptoms, eventually, whether mild or bad. Then they're over it, and carry the antibody. Also, some lucky few, it's sounding like 15-20% or fewer, never develop any symptoms, but develop the antibody. So I wonder if you're conflating the notion of "asymptomatic carrier" with "perpetually contagious?" That sounds scientifically inaccurate.
The only way to know who has been exposed and developed antibodies without symptoms, and who has had it and recovered, is by testing. Also, pre-vaccine, and secured cure, using plasma from recovered patients is one way to save lives.
The only way to make use of this plasma is to identify recovered victims, via testing.
There are plenty of good arguments for effective testing. If you say you don't want to know, isn't that just sticking your fingers in your ear and going "Lalalalala?"
