Not being provocative but what is up with Federer fans freaking out and blowing everything out of proportion? Their talks of Fed being damn near crippled reminded me of the great 2017 Wimbledon medium hards scare...until Fed won the tournament with ease anyway and showed why he's the best on grass. Back-to-back slams of them completely overreacting.

The slowness of USO courts is actually more obvious than Wimbledon courts. Dareen Cahill even mentioned it a few times on ESPN.

Courts are fast. Balls are slow, which is leading to some really slow conditions. That's my observation anyway.

I'm referring to the original post from earlier today. I'm a little more sympathetic to Dog's up and down play given his illness that I was unaware of.

I had no expectation that he would give Rafa trouble, unlike Shoelace a couple nights ago who said he wouldn't be surprised if Rafa lost. My earlier post was in response to that.

As for the match-fixing, has nothing to do with the match today. Just including it in the list of reasons I don't care for the guy.

Well, I didn't count on Dolg not being able to put the ball in play 3 shots in a row. I really haven't been impressed with Nadal at all this tournament and think Federer is a very firm favorite in their eventual semi final match. And hell, if Del Potro plays great and beats Roger, he's at least 50/50 with Rafa.

Not much is being made of how poor Nadal's forehand has been this tournament.

Did you see his first two matches? Particularly the Youzhny one? I don't think it was an overreaction as to how his condition looked. He was barely moving for most of those matches, his first serve was often under 100 MPH, and he wasn't bending for anything on the backhand side.

The hope was that there was some rust and that a lot of it was mental in that he was barely moving and not getting low for anything because he didn't want to risk hurting his back. I will be the first to admit that he looks completely healthy the past couple matches. It's also possible he wasn't taking cortisone shots or anti-inflammatory meds the first two rounds but now is. I haven't heard if that's the case but just speculating...

You are still missing the point. Everybody agrees that JMDP has better pedigree and better HC player than Thiem despite the ranking. But, we are not talking about an ordinary JMDP today, but a sick JMDP (you clearly did not see the beginning of the match and so you fail to understand the gravity of the situation). It is certainly a huge embarrassment for Thiem today to lose to a sick JMDP.

I didn't see any of it, but @I.Haychew does make a valid point that JMDP looks perpetually gassed out and hangdog even when he isn't (and he always did even in his prime)... although maybe not on Isner's scale. Don't dispute he was ill though and surprised Thiem couldn't close him out.

the magnificent Juan Martin's back...incredible win, congrats to both players for this epic match, I wish Juanito good luck vs Mr Vavrinec but if he has the flu, it'll be complicated for him to prevail. proud of him anyway

I can't see Delpo beating Roger or Rafa to be honest. I think we're nailed on for a Fedal semi.

Federer's path is, on paper, harder, as an inspired del Potro is a threat to everyone. However, he will pay some physical price and that may cost him any real chance on the match. Nadal's match is in fact quite tricky, it has a great deal of similarity to both matches he lost at Montreal and Cincinnati. His usual slow start may cost him much more this time if Rublev simply keeps pounding (and connecting) without fear. Still the favorite but I would be very worried if I were a fan. So, even if on paper it does not seem so, all things considered Nadal's match is the harder one IMO.

OMG, Nadal's been given one patsy after another! Tricky? Please! Why would a Next-Gen threaten him after such an easy path of qualifiers and a LL! The runs of Fedal at Wimbledon and now the USO have just been pathetically easy; dropping sets only through their own incompetence! It really doesn't say much about the tour to have these old geezers still running the show! I know everyone will be amped if they meet in the semi, but I think it's killing the sport! The "also-rans" are breaking down as evidenced by so many top players either withdrawing early, retiring mid-match, or losing like slugs! I didn't watch Thiem, but to see that score with a lead just proves my point! These guys may never get there; sorta like Dimitrov, Kei, & Milos! I got so excited by Sasha winning of late, but as usual my hopes for a new champion were dashed rather early! It's going to be hard watching the rest except maybe Hingis in the doubles and MD's; that's more of the story for me if you want to hear about a seasoned VET accomplishing so much after retiring twice! :yesyes: :ptennis:

You're missing the joke mate.

No joke. Federer is the only god and DarthFed his prophet. At least that's what they are saying in this board. (and, by the way, according to this you are one of the believers. You better watch out and don't become a traitor).

An unwilling prophet. I have a feeling you're going to run with this one for awhile :D

I see PCB is winning this one easily. Figured that'd be the case with Schwartzman a little injured. I think Sam is the only prayer for a competitive final, PCB and KA would get decked. Sam has a small chance

It is Murray's and Wawrinka's fault. When they're around I can torture people with my favorite punch line (peak Wawrinka > peak Murray).
