Well, let's hope Djokovic takes advantage of the wonderful gift he is receiving in his part of the draw falling apart. It is like someone out there wants him to win this thing.

Yeah I'm sure he's hugely relieved not to have to face Ferrer or Nadal. :-/

The only players that can beat him here are at the other side of the draw and they have not yet lost.

The only sad thing is that now I have to wait until AO of next year to see Rafa lose in a GS. :cry

I wonder how many went to bed thinking Rafa had this well in hand? :p :nono  :dodgy: :eyepop

Me for one. Big surprise. What a joyful start to the weekend ahead ;)

I am actually really happy for Paire. It would be nice to see him make the QF huge ask against his countryman Tsonga, but who knows he did beat Kei.

Yeah I saw him play against Robredo and kei, he is playing really well, no injuries at last.

Benoit is 0-2 against him, but they haven't played since 2012 in Shanghai (6-7, 5-7). This one I am looking forward to watching.

Lol he was a break up in the third?

Yes he was. that is when I went to bed, thinking this is over. Now I am in shock. I knew Rafa is downhill, but losing to Fabio on HC, is probably his worse result of all.

Oh, I dunno about that. I think losing in straights to Novak in Paris might have alerted us that there was something wrong with this picture...

You may want to check Fabio's record on HC. Is not good at all. All his success in his career came on clay.

You might want to check Berdych's record against Rafa, before Oz, and Novak's record against him in Paris. All of these defeats this year are cut from the same cloth, and sure signs that Rafa isn't himself, long before he played FFS last night...

With this los, another "theory" about Nadal is put to rest. "He is a different animal in 3 sets out of 5", idea which was still entertained by one of his biggest fans here, Anti Pusher just before the USO.
This was true for years, but seems that stamina and focus in prolonged encounter is not was once was.

Well, this is kinda like the fella who keeps predicting "the bus will come along in the next five minutes" and he says this every five minutes for two hours until a bus comes along to prove him right....

That is your opinion, which I am not in agreement with. Sorry. Berdych on HC and Novak on clay had good success. Fabio had done zippo on HC. No matter how I am looking at it, this was a blow. Especially losing like that, 2 sets a break up.

This cloth is much coarser and full of holes. Nadal was up two sets and a break against a man who is a career 52-89 and had never advanced to the USO 4th round in 7 previous tries.

I'm not saying it's good, but it isn't unexpected, especially given that FFS had done well against him this year, and that Rafa has been struggling to win matches he usually routinely wins, including the matches against Berdy and Djoker. Especially in Paris, actually, where he was the default setting.

I don't think any of these losses are "the worst" in the context of what he's gone through since he came back...

I have a feeling other Rafa fans will not be on the same page with you on this.

Nah, this is the worst. It wasn't a straight sets loss. He was ahead by 2 sets and a break. That officially factually makes it the worst.

Just because one delusional fan who wants to tell himself anything to escape reality believes in something doesn't make it a theory. Nobody really subscribes to the above, at least not this year. Yes, there was a time when Nadal was not only a different animal in best of 5 sets, but a different animal altogether. But we all know that is no longer the case so you don't need to go on fabricated narratives. The post-Nadal loss talk around these parts is bad enough as it is (from both sides).

This is easily the worst loss of the year for Nadal. The FO loss might have carried bigger repercussions since he failed to defend his title and there was a consensus that no matter how badly he was playing, only one man could stop him (so if he'd beaten Djokovic most believed he was going to win the tournament), whereas here, the expectations were minimal regardless (as in, if he didn't lose to Fog, he would lose to someone else). Nevertheless, the nature of the loss is easily the worst, especially given the fact that he wasn't exactly playing a world beater.
