I would say 5% of these losses should be contributed to "confidence." People are incredulous that Roger is playing so well in his old age, but look at his game. It's as easy on the body as possible, and he keeps taking steps to make it even easier. Rafa on the other hand is so physical, that it's no surprise the drop off is going to much more dramatic. Doesn't mean he can't recover it, but it's not confidence. He's just playing like crap.

Another problem is - guys know they can beat him now and that's gotten in his head as well. For God's sake - Feliciano Lopez, #19 in the world and never won a Slam, actually said something like, "When I'm playing my best he can't beat me." :laydownlaughing That's just WRONG! LOL! There's no mystique to Nadal amongst the lower ranked players anymore. McEnroe was talking about it during Fed's match - how Roger had lost that intimidation factor with the lesser players in 2013 when he had back problems, but has gotten it back and doing so at 34 is remarkable. Nadal needs to do what Roger did - drop weight, get leaner and work on his speed, his net game and start coming forward to shorten points. He looks bulky\muscle-bound, heavy-footed and sort of lumbering on the court. Stop worrying about his underwear modeling contract and start getting his body ready for TENNIS instead.

Only his quads are bulky these days. Other than that and a reasonable sized left bicep he's lost pretty much all the mass he had in 2004-2006/2007 and isn't exactly cover model material anymore by a longshot unless they Photoshop some pecs and abs onto him.

Guess that means you missed the shirtless pix at the Tommy Hilfiger event with all the models playing tennis. He's still pretty bulky - abs, biceps, quads.

He's not body builder bulky...just tennis bulky. Still say he could drop a little weight and make his movement easier and lighter. But, hey, I'm not a Nadal fan. I don't care if he ever wins another tournament let alone a major. I'm just saying, as a tennis fan, I think he needs to lay off the modeling :dodgy: and spend more time on his game.

Contrary to my expectations, the boards are quiet after Rafa's loss. I was expecting a flurry of posts.

Well, it's not like it's a rare occurrence. The Nadalites have had plenty of time to vent, cry, dissect, and rationalize the numerous losses.

What more is there to say? It's been like this all season; a very average one for the ex-#1, Nadal! There's only so much harping you can do to what I expected to happen ages ago! You can't play like that for extended periods; too much exertions playing almost all his matches! Those battles sometimes started in the first round trying to survive upsets! It had to catch up to him sometime so I'm not surprised! I don't need to gloat! I've moved on!  :ras:

Some Rafa fans, who usually fuel a lot of dialogue, like Moxie, just vanished.

We're just obeying lady kskate who demanded that not every thread be turned into a Rafa discussion, among a host of other arbitrary rules.

You're kidding, right? About 70% of the traffic since Friday has been about Rafa. Mainly jackals and hyena stuff, but yeah, Rafa is still the marquee name here.

Don't worry, I did the stats, Roger accounted for 3.1% of the traffic, which is a rise of .000002% for him from last week... :popcorn

Yeah, all kidding aside, I don't get GSM's point (though maybe he's contractually obligated to make at least 1 provocative post per day?). This thread went 11 pages for a reason, and the "what do you see for Nadal moving forward" thread was revived for a reason. What more was he expecting?

Yup pretty much all of the above.
