they scheduled andy murray to play on Wednesday night intentionally.

Absolutely. You know about at least 14 days forecast ahead of time give or take and Andy being on the 3rd day and on a rainy day begs the question. They can play innocent but we are not dumb. How do you suppose Andy would react to all this? He'd be irritated to say the least and that would have an impact on his game. I hope it all backfires on them.

They are playing ...I guess the head supervisor said screw the rain, let's get some matches done, or someone named Iona is coming over here to open a can of whoopass...:D

Trust me I'm looking at flights right now.

News just in, Andy could get on court by the time the roof is built.

Oh, come on...how can you even care enough to dislike Lopez? What little I saw today, I have to say I was surprised by the flatness and depth of shot from him. And he did win the 2nd.

Hewitt has lost the 2nd set but up a break in the 3rd. Melzer, Wawrinka are all going toe to toe. Tough night ahead for them.

I've read that Lendl is furious. He's already been in to see whoever is in charge of the schedule. The defending champion clearly has no sway. I just hope they take a bit more notice of Lendl. I hope he had his angry face on.

I don't think Lendl will have a problem with the angry face part. ;) But let's hope he can accomplish something.

I thought that was his default-face. :snigger

I'm sure it must have happened. (Someone will tell me.) But I sure don't remember Roger playing so late in the schedule when he was defending. As I said...I always remember Rafa starting on Wed. as #2. That's why we bought tix for today.

I got to see Andy going in and he did not look happy. I thought the match wouldn't start until 9pm but judging by the slowness of Del Potro's match, I don't think it's now going to start before 9:30. Lendl should have stepped up way before and asked for an explanation for the late start. I would have done it. Someone needs to stand up or else nothing would get done.

I am now seriously pissed.

Haha.. I think it is his default-face but I'm pretty sure he can look even meaner if required.

Check out my earlier post re: Fed and the other top guys and when they've played their 1st matches over the years.

I'm liking the above from you, Iona, for so many reasons. DO come to NY! What a wash-out of a day for the fans. I saw exactly 3 games of one match (DelPotro v. GG Lopez) before we finally gave up. I've never before seen a drop of rain in all my years of going to the Open, so clearly I've been lucky up until today. I cannot figure out how the USTA (?) decides about scheduling this event, year after year, when it so clearly doesn't work out for them.

Do you get refund/ticket for next day or something like that?

No. I could have gone earlier, and I could still be there watching the matches that are on now. It wasn't a complete wash-out, and I'm not sure what happens, in that case.

I'll say this about the scheduling: HOW can there be women through to the 3rd round when no men are, and some men still have to get to the second? They could front-load the first two days with men's matches, at least to get them through. The men really deserve the two-day rest, whereas the women are playing the same format they play in one-week events. Dumb, dumb, dumb!!

The scheduling is not as dumb as you think. The women's final is on sunday,
whereas men's final is on monday. So, the women need to finish sooner whereas
men can afford to goof off. That is why men's first round is spread over 3 days,
whereas women's first round is over in 2 days. I think it is logical schedule.
Rain creates havoc; the organizers cannot do anything about it. Let us be
reasonable. The scheduling is fair (even if Murray fans go wild).

Remember that Roger also could not get onto the court for his opening
match the very first night.

Yes, but that was still the first night and it had its flexibility. The fact is, Nadal, Federer and Nole are all done with their 1st round matches while Murray still awaits his match on the 3rd day and it's almost 9pm at night.

Del Potro finally breaks back. Good point. Lopez is running down every ball and throwing Del Potro off balance at times.
