Ok I've been out for a while but who made this stupid list of tennis potentials to include Rosol, Starkhovsky (!?!? the guy is almost retired) and Pospisil? Harrison has also been mentioned the other day. These are all very average top 100 players.
And I'm not writing off Nishikori because of one 1R loss. He will not be the next world no. 1. But he is a consistent top 20 player IMO, like Dimitrov Raonic and Janowicz. Good to watch, with good results but who might still lose in a 1R GS.
I don't get why new good players automatically need to reach the heights of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. People love to write them off, although nobody is claiming that they will be the next all-time great.
First of all, I'm really happy to see you back, Denis. I missed your posts.
As for the list, I think it's obviously a bit of an ironic list which is deliberately and grossly overstated on my part.
I think we all expected more from these guys. They were never going to be the next superstars, true, but good lord, currently there ain't even a freaking new Berdych or Tsonga on the horizon. Yes, it's that bad. As for Stakhovsky, he is still 27 and I don't think he's planning to retire anytime soon. Some years ago he was a rising top 30 player and many thought after his breakthrough in Wimbledon that he might be some kind of late bloomer such as Tipsarevic or Isner. I'm not writting off the likes of Janowicz, Dimitrov and Nishikori but I'm disappointed, that's all. But I can only blame myself here. I should have never expected anything in the first place. That's the lesson we have learnt with Gulbis over the years.
As for play suspended due to potential lightning in NYC, War of the Worlds anyone? Aliens coming back to pick up their missing son Rafa?
