Ok I've been out for a while but who made this stupid list of tennis potentials to include Rosol, Starkhovsky (!?!? the guy is almost retired) and Pospisil? Harrison has also been mentioned the other day. These are all very average top 100 players.

And I'm not writing off Nishikori because of one 1R loss. He will not be the next world no. 1. But he is a consistent top 20 player IMO, like Dimitrov Raonic and Janowicz. Good to watch, with good results but who might still lose in a 1R GS.

I don't get why new good players automatically need to reach the heights of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. People love to write them off, although nobody is claiming that they will be the next all-time great.

First of all, I'm really happy to see you back, Denis. I missed your posts. :) As for the list, I think it's obviously a bit of an ironic list which is deliberately and grossly overstated on my part. ;) I think we all expected more from these guys. They were never going to be the next superstars, true, but good lord, currently there ain't even a freaking new Berdych or Tsonga on the horizon. Yes, it's that bad. As for Stakhovsky, he is still 27 and I don't think he's planning to retire anytime soon. Some years ago he was a rising top 30 player and many thought after his breakthrough in Wimbledon that he might be some kind of late bloomer such as Tipsarevic or Isner. I'm not writting off the likes of Janowicz, Dimitrov and Nishikori but I'm disappointed, that's all. But I can only blame myself here. I should have never expected anything in the first place. That's the lesson we have learnt with Gulbis over the years.

As for play suspended due to potential lightning in NYC, War of the Worlds anyone? Aliens coming back to pick up their missing son Rafa? ;)

All matches are still suspended. Gawd. Andy's match is going to start at midnight at the rate it's going. Or may even get pushed to tomorrow. How unfair.

Janowicz, Dimitrov, Gulbis, Rosol, Pospisil, Stakhovsky and Nishikori already out and on their way home. That's quite some list full of pretenders...uh I mean tennis finest talents, I'm speechless. Raonic and Tomic to carry the burden of a lost generation. Good luck with that. :cover I'm also disappointed to see Monaco, Verdasco and Almagro losing so early. And there are still lots of 1st round matches to be played in the upper half of the draw. Are we going to witness a record breaking number of seeds and top 50 players going out in the first round? Who's next today?

You forgot Harrison! But of course, he's gone out to Nadal so that's a reasonable loss than all others. Hoping for Tomic to go far but because of his first round match, he might not stay fit to go deep. Raonic will probably do better than Tomic. Verdasco is highly inconsistent.

Apart from Janowicz, all others are more or less talented.

I'm Hoping for Tomic to go out,he plays Ward next,Emma,Andy's been helping Ward, did you know that?

No, I did not know that, Siddy but I do know Andy helps his mates out from time to time.

I'd like Tomic to advance though. I really enjoy his tennis. I've seen Ward once or twice maybe. He can be pretty good, yes.

I agree with that. I knew you weren't entirely serious, hence my reaction as even you started using these lists.

I missed the last two masters due to holidays and other stuff, but it seems like Rafa is really on the roll. Even winning Cincy, the fastest of hc events, that's quite something. I'd be happy if our extraterrestrial friends give us the old Rafa back :p

And this really sucks for those guys who have not even played their first round. I don't get it why they don't start playing on Sunday.

James Ward was knocked out in the final round of qualifying. It's Dan Evans that plays Tomic next.

They said on Sky Sports that 18 women are through to round 3 and Murray hasn't played his 1st round yet. I'm not sure if the US Open are trying to put Andy at a disadvantage but they're doing a pretty good job. Why on earth does the 1st round have to be staggered over 3 days? It's an absolute nonsense. No other slam does it.

Siddy was then probably talking about Dan but mixed it up with Ward. He's a Brit so he likes to keep an eye on all the Brit players. I haven't looked into Tomic's draw yet so I wouldn't have known who he's playing next. I have yet to watch one match!

USO schedules are always notorious. It's nothing new. It used to be my 2nd favourite Major but no more.

The new order:

Wimbledon
AO
RG

USO

So far, I see only 4 completed women's matches. That should mean only 4 have reached
round 3. I don't understand how 18 is quoted by sky sports.

We have now Del Potro on TV now that Venus has finally finished her match.

Garcia wins the 2nd. I am not sure how long this will take for either to finish this match. Garcia is definitely dangerous for a first rounder.

SomDev, the only player from a country of 1 billion population, is a break up
in the 5th set against Lacko. He better play good, 2 billion eyes are watching.

Venus has not finished her match. She is now playing third set. Since it is just the
beginning of a set, they moved to Del Po. Venus will be back on your screen very soon
when the third set progresses to an interesting situation.

No, not yet you are right. She's only won the 2nd set. I wasn't watching so when I came back to my TV they were showing Del Potro and having not known Venus' match progress or results, I thought she had finished her match.

So now we are back to 3rd set with Veunus.
