Thank you Mary Jo who agrees with me that Osaka has not played well since the AO and her performance against Gauff was her best since then:)
Osaka has not yet been tested and if she meets Andreescu its dueces.

Coco and Christie won the 1st set 63 over Melichar/Peshke (9)

Good thing for Coco she is still in the doubles, she was upset last night after her loss, coming out on court and playing tennis is the best medicine she can have.

I'm not gonna say I haven't considered that the planning of a wedding may be part of her problem. But someone of her wealth should really have plenty of help in that department. And I think most of her losses this year have been a lack of confidence. And a lack of problem solving ability.

But to say she needs to choose between being a wife and a tennis player is just annoyingly sexist. Like it's just ... I mean. We are just so beyond this.

Stephens has always been inconsistent. As a fan of hers since she showed up on tour, I've been through her early 2012 high. Followed by 3 seasons of futility, then the injury that took her out for almost a year. Her game can be great. And it can be devastating. But she struggles with a few key top players. And she struggles with hungry unknown players when she doesn't come in ready to roll and starts slow. I don't know what the disconnect is. Maybe she doesn't do enough prep or enough scouting/research. Or maybe it's just that the game really does have a lot of depth and her game just doesn't allow her to dominate. I don't know. And clearly she doesn't either.

I do agree that she needs more focus. She does seem off. Like she doesn't entirely want to be on court. But I think it has more to do with the fact that she keeps losing and can't get her confidence back and therefore just keeps playing poorly and losing. And it's a vicious cycle.

She can play at a top 20 or top 10 level and never win another slam and still make over a million a year for years to come. The game has that much money floating around now. You can play good tennis well into your early 30s. I think she'll win more slams. And more big tournaments. And I hope she can get to number 1. But if she doesn't, then that's the way it goes. And that's mostly on her. Maybe not entirely. Because there are a lot of really good players out there right now who don't struggle with too many players. But it's up to her.

But to say she has to choose between the 2 is ridiculous.
As usual, you don't get me. I didn't say she had to choose. I made a statement about her level of commitment, which has been lacking well before she got engaged. She can be a full-time wife and stay near her husband up North or she can decide she wants to be a top tennis player, which will require her to leave him frequently to compete (unless he comes along). Sloane spends a lot of time in Canada with him. If I thought she could do both, I would say that. So far she hasn't shown that she can balance the two so maybe choose one to focus on right now. If she's really a competitive tennis champion, the call of missing the competition will draw her back to playing.

I'm excited to see TT perform under the lights. After the initial nerves, I really hope it's a great showing by both players.
