Well good for Wang. I've been waiting on a showing like this since she beat Sloane right after she won the US Open in 2017. She had the two great runs to the semis in Wuhan and Beijing (I think) at the end of last year. Made it to Zhuhai. Where she lost to Barty. And she had lost to Barty once during the year before Zhuhai.
So a great turn around for her today. Barty just didn't look good for most of the match. Finally was able to raise her game down 1-3 in the second set. And played pretty well from there on out. But Wang was able to weather that storm. So real kudos to her.
Her first trip to the 4th round of a slam and wins it for her first slam quarterfinal. Has yet to lose a set. Playing clean tennis. But until today hadn't had too much in the way of stiff competition. Should Serena deal with Martic as she should, that will all change in the quarterfinals. Wang could definitely bother Serena. Gets a lot of balls back. But I feel like the way to beat Wang is to over power her. Barty did not try to do that today. And Serena has looked great so far other than against McNally. But she eventually played herself into that match. And that was just the second round. And if Serena and Venus talk, Venus has some wins over Wang that she can give Serena pointers on.
Still. Serena has to deal with Martic first. Should be straight forward for her. But Martic does have some game and a nice serve. So no cake walk. Typical 4th round for Serena.
