Well. She lost to Sharapova 2 years ago. Kanepi last year. Before that she made the quarters in 2016 (l. Serena) and the semis in 2015 (l. Panetta). And before that, it's not too many poor losses either. I've always felt like she just ran into inspired players here. Or players bigger than her who could out hit her on the hard courts where her defensive skills are less effective. And I mean. The list reads like that. Serena, Kanepi, Sharapova, Lucic-Baroni, Petrova, Panetta twice and even Jankovic. Panetta and Jankovic the two least big hitting of the group. But both great players.

TP, I really thought playing serve and volley during the TBR was extremely extraordinary too risky but as she said, F it , I'm going for it. If Taylor's emotional interview doesn't touch your soul, then you surely have a black heart.

It was great wasn't it. She has been through so much over the last few years. And she's always kept fighting. Loves the game. And just wants to compete. She looks great. She losing the weight slowly. Looks like she's found a fighting weight she can live with. Would probably still help her speed and longevity to lose a bit more. But it probably gives her a bit more weight behind her shots.

She's definitely thinner than I've seen her since she was teenager. Her sprints to the net were impressive. She needs to give her trainer a raise.

Well. I said earlier today that I thought Kalinskaya would probably come through against Ahn and it looks like I was wrong about that. Not quite over. But Ahn getting the better of her. Which says even more about Stephens poor play. Just not in a great head space. Not connecting with her shots or game enough right now to deal with someone that even Ahn can deal with. Match not quite over. But close. Anyways.

Vekic up a set and a break on Kanepi. A battle there. Kanepi just had a break back point. But didn't convert. Deuce.

Remember the grief she was given for being chubby and over weight?

I know. I was part of that grief club. She was entirely too heavy to play tennis. No way you can effectively get behind the ball carrying that much weight.

I understand that, still some of the remarks were rather horrid, young girls are very aware of their bodies these days.

By the way @MargaretMcAleer , Cahill has still coached Simona even though he doesn't travel w/ her anymore. She talks to him on the phone all the time so he's still an integral part of her team.

Yes. So true. I can't speak for others, but I know I was really disappointed in the USTA because w/ her talent level I wanted to see her succeed and I knew the weight would hold her back. Plus, I didn't feel like they set her up for success early in her development (the right coach, trainer, physio, etc).

Darren has mentioned it in the booth several times this year that he still talks to her on the phone. Who do you think gave her the gameplan against Serena at Wimby?

She had to go for it AP. When she plays not to lose, she doesn't win so she needs to stay aggressive and determine her result
KS..I said 6 years ago Venus should have turn into a serve and Volley player which I felt would have given her an opportunity to win Wimbledon..Can you imagine trying to hit the ball passed Venus with a 7 foot wing span.

I know AP, but Vee is probably more stubborn than Serena and that's saying something.

Sloane needs to get married, have an extended honeymoon and then sit down in the off season and decide if she wants to be a full-time wife or a dedicated/focus tennis player.

Very winnable match for TT against Cirstea. She could definitely make R16. By the way, they have Kobe on the ESPN desk

Sloane should become a commentator. She’s articulate and likable. She doesn’t have the fight to be at the top of the wta.

Happy to see TT win. Her style is a nice contrast to the boring rallies we see too much of these days.

^ Sloane has never had the 'champions fight or mental toughness' I remembered when she first came on the tour,if she got behind in a match she would just give up? she has made some improvements in that area,still....also her footwork at times is just downright lazy. This year has been a disaster, she is losing to players that are qualifiers....I think she needs to take a long hard look at herself,it is up to her to succeed.

I have to go to work later see I need to sleep

I will predict Collins to win over Caroline and Babos to win over Coco, even though I would like to see the match up between Coco and Osaka.

Check scores at work.....Have a good night everyone!
