As I've said all along. The UK government didn't want to investigate Russian interference in the Brexit vote. We can't say there was interference because there was no investigation. There will be some ostriches that want to believe that means there was no interference. But we have nut jobs who argue that because Mueller couldn't definitively prove that there was a conspiracy around the 2016 election in the US that means that there was none. We all know that's BS. It just means that he was not able to prove it in a court of law. Particularly when Trump associates were willing to perjure themselves. This is where we've come to. A UK government bereft of the EU. Bullied by the US to drop Chinese 5G. Where's our sovereignty now!? :face-with-tears-of-joy: Utterly pathetic...

We can't stand up for ourselves against the US.
We can't stand up for ourselves against Russia.
The Chinese completely ignore us.

So yes, it makes total sense to reclaim our sovereignty from the EU. Those terrible bastards were enslaving us. Making us weak. What are we now? Bwahahaha! I have to laugh. What else can I do?

I'm sensing a pattern here. What's next? Are you going to blame the Russians for the New York Giants going 4-12?

The Russians must be laughing out loud at all the mass hysteria. If I was Putin playing Geopolitics, I'd spend $100k on a few Facebook ads at every western election. Then sit back and watch years of squabbling and the squandering of millions of dollars/pounds performing investigations. It's easy to see why the Russians are known for their chess.

you're hilarious mate. You post YouTube clips of batshit crazy conspiracy theories and then you try to call me out for my commenting on the fact that the British government refused to investigate Russian involvement in Brexit? That is a fact. I would think that a conspiracy theorist like you should explore why that's the case. If you weren't serious about all this the whole thing would be better placed in the joke thread...

Which conspiracy theories are you referring to exactly? and what is your definition of a conspiracy theory?

Cameron might be the PM that dumped the UK out of Europe, but Bojo will be the one that loses the union. Hard to see how he isn't going to make Scottish independence inevitable if he gets this law breaking legislation through. He might thumb his nose at nationalists for a while, but that will just strengthen their hand and guarantee a victory in the end. So sad... so predictable

Fucking Bojo... I was all set to fly to the Maldives for the next few weeks and then this international travel ban. Can't wait for this shitshow of a year to be behind us :face-with-symbols-on-mouth:

As current or former members of the UK, what are your thoughts on whether or not the monarchy should be abolished?

(If I’ve forgotten to tag members from the UK, please tag them in your response.)
Definitely not! I think the monarchy is a great thing. It's ironic, but I suspect part of the reason why this crisis is happening is because Charles and William have been trying to reform the monarchy. They're reducing the size of it, it's not strictly necessary to have too many royals doing the work. Perhaps Harry and Meghan didn't like being side-lined. But the simple fact is that over the years it's become increasingly untenable to hear about huge expenditure for the royal family when the rest of us are being asked to wear fiscal austerity. That's not to minimise all of their claims, but I couldn't help feeling how beneficial that interview was for their personal platform. I found the whole thing pretty disgusting to be honest. If the monarchy should end, it shouldn't be because of those two. Just my personal view...

As someone who's genealogically mostly Scots/Irish with some English & some Norman-French ancestry who was born & brought up in England & has lived there all my life, what nationality would you class me as?

I'm asking to find out whether you want to know what I think or whether you're thinking I'm just going to say no as you know I'm a heritage preservationist so you think I want to keep everything as is unless you were trying to give me space as you know I've been very tired & busy recently with the emailed list of jobs my Manager sent me to do.

I did not see all of the program with Meghan Markle and Harry so cannot really pass judgement. Willdo later.

A few salient points was Meghan was suicidal , she also mentions about an unnamed royal family member who raised concern that her child would be born black, her wanting to maintain independence, etc.
As to the future of the monarchy. I reckon it will go once her Majesty the Queen has left this world.

I read that TV anchor Piers has made an right royal ass of himself, not for the first time.

I wish i was there to have seen this stuff live on UK television :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Piers Morgan storms off Good Morning Britain as Alex Beresford tells him off. Classic case of you"can dish it out, but he can't take it" ehh.

I thought the interview was fairly crass, to be honest. The couple allegedly departed the UK in search of privacy and becoming self-sufficient.

Doing an interview with Oprah and Harry moaning about money being cut off doesn't really fit with their declared aims.

Should the monarchy be abolished? It depends on what the reason is for abolishing it and the implications.

Ask most Brits, and I'd hazard a guess the preference would be to keep it.

One argument I always refuted from Republicans was that it would save money. That's ridiculous.

The implications (and cost) of abolishing it would be far bigger than most people appreciate on the surface. You'd be rewriting laws dating back to the Magna Carta, figuring out original land ownership, reconfiguring duchies, civil lists, oaths, armed forces, ancient institutions... not just in the UK, but in many Commonwealth countries. You'd probably spend over a billion quid on signwriting alone.

Was Megan badly treated? I've no idea. Maybe she was. Was she alone? Diana may be the fairytale princess now, but she got plenty of dreadful coverage for years from the media prior to her death. Ditto Fergie. (Prince Andrew's wife). The British media is pretty unpleasant at the best of times. We can even go back to Wallis Simpson (American) and the King's abdication... I'm not sure race is particularly that much of a factor.

The stuff with "My son isn't going to be a Prince" is nothing to do with colour. The Princess Royale (Princess Anne) and Prince Edward's kids don't have titles either. It's nothing new or exceptional. Federberg is correct in that they are streamlining the Royal family, so why would they give a title out to kids who aren't going to be engaged in Royal service and don't live in a Commonwealth country?

I'm Royalist with a very small "r". They bring in money from tourism and performing a role for the state. Abolish them, and you'll end up with something like President Tony Blair as Head of State. I'll stick with the Queen. However, I'd prefer it if they just skipped Charles and moved onto William as a successor. Charles dabbling around in geopolitics could bring the whole thing down, and it's not like Kings called Charles have had a great track record in British history.

Sure, if you were setting up a framework now (in the 21st Century), it probably wouldn't include a royal family, but it's not like any other framework has worked any better or stood the test of time.

A lot of people say that about Charles - the poor misunderstood bastard. But I tell you.. the person who would most hate for that to happen would be William himself. I don't imagine it's any fun at all being monarch. Give him his time of freedom first

I’d say the Queen would most hate for that to happen. She’s the embodiment of tradition.

The French have also tried to bring in something stopping bystanders from filming police on their phones. What the hell is going on in Europe??
