I'm not totally convinced that the UK really pulled back on the herd immunity idea. Maybe officially, but actions speak louder than words.
I feel you’re mistaking incomptence for strategy

listening to Bojo on his easing lockdown speech. Hard to disagree with anything he's saying. Phasing is good!

While I think the Atlantic is a trash publication, it did cross my mind on how Churchill would be treated in the modern-day. Do you think he'd have lasted very long? Winston was half-cut before most of his memorable speeches.

not sure he would have been suited to our times. For a start his extreme white supremacy and alcoholism might have been considered problematic in modern day Britain :face-with-tears-of-joy:

My business got a £10,000 business relief grant from the government yesterday. We had been a bit conflicted about whether to apply for it or not. We simply don't need it, frankly business has been very strong during the lockdown, so it felt weird to accept it, even though we were encouraged by government to do so. The final straw was our auditors telling us to apply for it as the government would take steps at a later date to claw it back so you might as well get the benefit. So here we are sitting with this cash feeling a bit absurd and wondering how many more businesses are experiencing exactly the same thing! The amount of fiscal waste we'll learn about that happened in these times... it almost doesn't bear thinking about

I was having a conversation with a friend of mine about how Bojo has now dropped his promise to refuse chlorinated chicken from the U.S. I had to share this rant of his, thought it was amusing and largely true...

"all those brexiters will realise after a while is that either you're the bitch of the EU or the bitch of the US. You're going to be a bitch so you might as well accept it. At least in the EU you had a seat on the table, you won't get that with the US..."

The US might decide what you have to eat at the table and who cooks it, but on the other hand, the EU would be eating your meal.

Chlorinated Chicken sounds pretty rank, although you're already eating chlorinated veg and salad.

There is a choice though. Not everyone in Britain will have to eat chlorinated chicken & we're not all already eating chlorinated veg & salad. I live near some farm shops & buy chicken off them from freshly caught & plucked chicken. You can still buy British chicken. Not only do we grow our own veg but there are some nearby farms with shops so we buy fresh if we haven't got any left out of the garden. I always buy British when it's possible. Not only is it normally fresher as it hasn't been transported as far but it supports our own farmers & their workers

So the UK has been more badly damaged economically than other major economies. On top of that Bojo wants to steer the country towards a hard Brexit. Merkel has already made it clear that she won't (she's EU President for the next 6 months) be trying to help with any trade deals, it's hard to see how this whole thing makes sense. It's going to be interesting to see what Bojo does. The days of a weak opposition seem to be over. This Keir Starmer fella looks solid and eminently electable. The days of having no option to go with the Tories because of Corbyn are in the past

As I've said all along. The UK government didn't want to investigate Russian interference in the Brexit vote. We can't say there was interference because there was no investigation. There will be some ostriches that want to believe that means there was no interference. But we have nut jobs who argue that because Mueller couldn't definitively prove that there was a conspiracy around the 2016 election in the US that means that there was none. We all know that's BS. It just means that he was not able to prove it in a court of law. Particularly when Trump associates were willing to perjure themselves. This is where we've come to. A UK government bereft of the EU. Bullied by the US to drop Chinese 5G. Where's our sovereignty now!? :face-with-tears-of-joy: Utterly pathetic...

We can't stand up for ourselves against the US.
We can't stand up for ourselves against Russia.
The Chinese completely ignore us.

So yes, it makes total sense to reclaim our sovereignty from the EU. Those terrible bastards were enslaving us. Making us weak. What are we now? Bwahahaha! I have to laugh. What else can I do?

Starmer won't be winning anything until he can achieve a coalition of sorts within the Labour Party. The hard left of the party doesn't want him there. It's similar to the battle Kinnock had back in the day. Kinnock won. Starmer faces far more formidable opposition from within, given the makeup of the Labour membership.

^you don't have to win to create an effective opposition. I agree that getting rid of Corbyn is just the start. What is it with leftist parties and their complete disinterest in winning? :D
