39 year old Ken Rosewall got crushed at the 74 Wimbledon and USO by 21 year old Jimmy Connors and then it was acknowledged you get on the court , no excuses. Nobody bitched about his age as a lazy ass excuse , even the great Pancho Gonzalez was beating top ranked players at the age of 40 and would have laughed at those saying he was too old to compete.

Methuselah has the luxury and privilege of playing an era where he got to play 80 Majors, winning 20 and enjoying big bucks and having the best trainers, conditioners, coaches etc at his disposal. Yet even now some of his fans just conveniently bitch about age because they lack the balls to acknowledge that when you lose, well you just lose.

Most of the players Rafa and Novak will be holding off from the top spot are a decade plus younger then they are and it is what it is. If Rafa and Novak continue to play at a high level, who the hell cares about their age?

Nadal has no real competition on clay .

This has absolutely got to be the worst piece of logic that people often throw around here. Could it be that he has no competition on clay because, he’s, you know, ermmm...so much fucking better than anyone else?

The guy has won 12 French Opens. Almost all of them included wins over Federer and/or Djokovic. Two guys who, in addition to being literally 2 of the 3 greatest players who ever lived, would have won multiple FO’s each had it not been for Nadal. Give me a break.

So, I'll say it again, Nadal has no real competition on clay. That's because he's so good on clay but there are plenty of contenders on grass and hard court. And I don't troll, I post facts.

I mean you’re negating your own statement. By saying “it’s because he’s so good” you’re acknowledging that he’s just better than everyone by such a wide margin. Isn’t that the point of competition? If he’s so much better on clay than Djokovic or Federer are on grass (and he really is, and it’s not particularly close at all), then that’s on them, and that’s a credit to him.

And Thiem was poor in this year’s RG final? That’s news to me.

Also, who are these contenders on grass that you’re speaking of? Djokovic, Federer and Nadal?

Nice summary.
May I ask you what this beautiful name in your profile name means?

And wtf exactly does Thiem beating a poor version of Djokovic and Federer on clay have to do with Nadal ? Thiem may have beaten Nadal at the best of 3 clay events but he's been poor enough at RG. So, I'll say it again, Nadal has no real competition on clay. That's because he's so good on clay but there are plenty of contenders on grass and hard court. And I don't troll, I post facts.
three posters disagree with you so just take your lose pill and chill nadal beaten Djokovic+federer to win most of these RG titles they are the greatest of all time nadal had to beat to win French opens. so don't have a leg to stand on while Federer beaten what serve bots? or players with no power like Hewitt who I love but did not have any big weapons lol.

The French Open is the hardest Major to win multiple titles in the last 50 years

Ah, Jelena Jankovic the WTA player. Was always a big fan of hers and hoping she makes one last comeback!
Thx. Was confused, because Novak’s wife is also named Jelena, then I realised you are not a Novak fan. It’s a name mostly used on territory of former Jugoslavia, thought you have maybe roots there.
Now it’s clear. I’m afraid Jelena will never comeback significantly, I liked her also.

Listen, while I’m a big Rafa fan, I cheer for Novak when he’s playing anybody but Rafa. ESPECIALLY when Novak is playing Federer. It’s obvious Methuselah hates losing to Novak, ( heheheh)

I’m more than good if Rafa doesn’t surpass Methuselahs records for Novak to do so.

More than good.

I think Federer hates losing to anybody. Not sure why you think he hates losing to Djokovic most. The matches between Federer and Djokovic are more about the quality they bring on court. You have the best returner versus one of the best servers ever. I like Djokovic too, because apart from Federer, he is the most talented among the top players.

No doubt the top 3 players are all supremely talented. Understandably Fandom comes down to personal preferences.

As to whether Novak/Federer had any animosity towards each other, Novak’s ex coach Becker said there was a dislike there. Novak as far as I know has never commented on it. Roger admitted there was something early on but that it’s a nonissue now.

Certainly their “rivalry” pales in comparison to the red hot disdain some players had for each other in the past. My favorite to hear about was the infamous Gerulaitis/Fibak hatred.

Bill Scanlon said the Wojtek Fibak approached him before he was going to play a finals match with Gerulaitis to give him pointers on how to beat Vitas. Mind you, Scanlon and Fibak were hardly more than acquaintances. LOL.

.

Come on you know the reason. In 2008, after Novak beat Fed in the semifinals and later won the AO, Nole's Dad was obnoxious and made the notorious comment that "King Roger is dead and there is new King now". Moreover in that entire match Novak's box was so rowdy and I believe that is the root cause of the hatred between them.

The “new King” thing began during the 2007 USO, when Novak got to his first GS final — and promptly lost to Roger.

I never heard that one! The only thing Scanlon was noted for by me was his intro into the pro ranks out of college by beating Ilie Nastase a couple times! There were/are players who keep a book on the other pros! Back in my day it was Jaime Fillol who wasn't the best player, but won a few small tourneys! He was more adept and successful in doubles partnering with various players! He knew the strength & weakness of others to take advantage when he could and players went to him for input! Fillol could make some elites struggle, even took Borg to the limit w/ a 3rd set TB early @ the USO, but never really completed the deal IIRC! The ability & skill just wasn't enough I guess! ;-)

Oh I think Team Djokovic grated on Federer before that. After their fist match ever in his presser Federer IIRC said he saw nothing special in a Novak’s game.

Federer claims that he was first upset with Novak on Stan Wawrinka’s behalf for Novak’s sportsmanship during a 2006 DC match between those two players.

I didn't hear any of that! Around that time I was a little ambivalent about tennis even though it was my life for 30 years playing, watching, & teaching! I was a bit down with the loss of Martina Hingis to the game along with the boring dominance of Fedal! It was just hard watching around then; wasn't even aware or knew of the Olympic Chp. in 2004; Massau? WHO? Justine Henin beating Serena Williams was the only thing keeping me going around then! :yesyes: :p  :ptennis:

The "King is dead" comment he's referring to happened after the 2008 AO loss and was made by Novak's mom, not his dad. Still, moral of the story, he's got an obnoxious family.

To call a whole family obnoxious, because of a statement of one person in emotional overreaction, that is obnoxious.

dulls clay competition is a joke..After 2004, Coria, Kuerten all disappeared
