New career highs:

71. John Millman 26y
78. Denis Kudla 23y
86. Radu Albot 25y
99. Kyle Edmund 20y

The newcomer this week is Kyle Edmund from Great Britain. He lost in the Aptos challenger in the SF to the eventual winner Millman, who also makes a nice jump this week.

Nobody seems to be able to string together back-to-back great years anymore. Nole couldn't repeat 2011 in 2012. Murray couldn't repeat his 2012 in 2013 - and then Nadal couldn't repeat his 2013 in 2014.

Nole who was the top player last year in 2014 has defended all and some so far this season, therefore increasing his lead over the field by a significant margin.

Obviously he meant that if players have an exceptionally great year, they're unable to replicate it most of the time. Not that you can't improve on a good year.

yippee. he was in the sf of a challenger this week just gone (I think, I did look before but..), hopefully he can stay in the top 104 or whatever the cut off is after next weeks rank charts (??), to be in main draw for usopen.

The cutoff for the main draw for the USO was already established several weeks ago. I think the lead time is usually 6 weeks to qualify for an event. You are confusing the ranking which will determine the seeded players timing (1 week before the slam) with that one which qualifies them to the event.

New career highs this week:

28. Jack Sock 22y
74. Denis Kudla 23y
85. Radu Albot 25y

A rare instance to gave two americans leading the way as far as best career ranking. Also good timing just ahead of the USO.

New career highs:

89. Daniel Munoz-De La Nava (Spain) 33y
92. Pierre-Hugues Herbert (France) 24y

While Herbert pulls up into the top 100, based on his outstanding performance at Winston-Salem, it is quite something to see a new comer into the top 100 for the first time at 33y. Munoz-De la Nava channels Estrella Burgos who managed the same at the same age. He made the jump based on his challenger results. Good for him.

He did it to himself; sorta like all of the new bloods! He has trouble finishing and needs a donation or 2 at the end! That's how so many of these guys are; MP's in hand and they find a way to lose it! :cover :puzzled :nono  :dodgy:

Rafa has moved up one spot to #7 in rankings.

Given that he has next to nothing to defend, he may move up one or two more spots by end of year. But, I don't think he can break into top four in time for AO'16. But, it is mathematically possible.

That does not matter. What matters is how he plays, and with his current form, he will be lucky to preserve his current ranking.

Alright, with Murray out, who else thinks that Nole should be safe at #1 until at least next year's wimby? I'm only half-kidding, BTW. If he stays more or less healthy, I can't see how someone could threaten his position. He's got like 5-6000 pts/50% lead in the rankings, and it's not much different in the race.

lets not forget that djokovic lost in the usopen qf last year so although he has a massive points lead in rank charts already, if he wins usopen2015 djokovic will need a chart all on his own, or at least some anti-vertigo tablets to stop him feeling sick when he looks down at everyone else.

so yes..unless djoko is zapped by aliens he will be world no1 rank for rest of 2015 and prob no change (if any) until 2016.

If Nole wins the USO. he has indeed secured mathematically the #1 even if he does not play another single match the rest of the season.

John McEnroe mentioned that Nole's lead is so extensive, he could take off the rest of the season! :dodgy: :p :ras:
