Tsonga is battling injuries. He is almost like Rafa in that aspect. I think he has even less chances than David.

Nole has started his 135th week as world's #1.

I am also happy that Serbia has 4 players in top 100:

43. (44) Viktor Troicki (Srbija) – 961
71. (77) Dušan Lajović (Srbija) – 711
98. (101) Filip Krajinović (Srbija) – 560

I really miss Janko, I hope he can come back and play again.

There are other young players (except Ilija, he is older) that are up and coming.

252. (251) Peđa Krstin (Srbija) – 192
256. (254) Laslo Đere (Srbija) – 191
309. (217) Ilija Bozoljac (Srbija) - 150

Although recently, during his visit to Belgrade, Nole stated that the number of tennis players in Serbia has dropped and he is afraid that the sport might become marginal again, soon. Hopefully not!!

Grigor sneaks all right, because Marin Cilic is absent, not that he did something.
We shall see how long Grigor holds onto that spot, because this week he defends 500 points and if he fails to defend, he could sneak back out of the top 10.

I am baffled how Andy can be ranked number 3 with one GS final and 0 MS finals in the last 12 months. He hasn't even been that great in the lower tournaments nor has he been consistent in reaching SFs in loads of MS or GS tournaments. Just goes to show how inconsistent everyone else has been.

Remember that he played and won (or at least went deep) in several tourneys (in his quest
to make it to WTF). All of those were in fall and so they still count. His performance this year
since the beginning is surely better than his performance last year results wise. So, it is not
much of a surprise, especially considering that Rafa sat out for a long period.

He won an ATP 500 and a couple of 250s, didn't he? Most other players in the top ten have about the same title-wise - I know Nishikori won Barcelona 500, Raonic won Washington 500, Dimitrov won Acapulco 500, Ferrer has just won the Rio 500 too and most of those guys must have at least one ATP 250 to their names and it just doesn't feel like Andy's outperformed them all in the last 12 months so it just seems odd for him to be number 3. Not complaining though.

It does not feel that way as there is too much Andy Bashing going on (perhaps, including from me).
On the other hand, he has not really outperformed them in any significant manner. As you can
see and as somebody else pointed out above, there is a mere 1000 points separating #3 from #8.
So, all of them are kind of in the same boat.

#1 is miles ahead the rest. While #2 is way below #1, he is also way ahead of #3.
#3 through #8 are in a tight race. I expect these people to play musical chair throughout
the year with lot of shuffle in the rankings amongst themselves.

That is exactly it. Andy got to #3 because:
1. Rafa lost points everywhere he played: Doha, AO and Rio well over 1000 points
2. Stan lost points at the AO, 1280
3. Andy gained more points this season than Kei Nishikori at the AO by reaching the final

Therefore Andy vaulted over these 3 players from 6 to 3.

But the distance is not very large among the players ranked 3-8. In fact, there is a ranking alert this week, one more slippage by Rafa coupled with a good result by Kei, could result in a dislocation of Nadal from the top 4. If Andy is knocked out by Muller tomorrow, he immediately loses #3 and slips below Rafa.
Lots of changes will happen in the top 10 in the upcoming months, except the top 2.

Djokovic has got this year's No 1 ranking wrapped up already unless he really really screws up. The rest is a free for all.

OK, lets not get ahead of ourselves. What Novak has in the bag is the #1 ranking most likely up to Wimbledon.

Ok, I'll step back a bit. But no one seems as consistent and solid as Djokovic right now. It's going to be very very hard to take his ranking from him this year, especially since he started it off with a grand slam. But I would love to see a close race happen. Maybe Nishikori can make a run at him this year.

First we need to see Nishikori in the top 4, before we can see him challenge Nole. One step at a time.

Murray loses # 3 and Dimitrov #10, slipping back where they were a week before. Andy may also go down to #5, depending how far Kei Nishikori goes in Acapulco.

Several significant changes this week which will have implications on the draw in Indian Wells:

Murray in #3 was short lived, he drops to 5 below Nadal and Kei Nishikori
Ferrer pulls back in the top 8, passing Tomas Berdych
Dimitrov is out of the top 10 dropping below Cilic
