I'm looking forward to next week's rankings; Nadal definitely falling well back of #3 it seems after losing in the QF of the AO! :clap :p  :dodgy: - Looks as if Nole will surpass Nadal in #1 ranking by the spring! So much for being the GOAT IMO when he's so far behind other HOF'rs with just as many majors!

There is no such thing as GOAT, but there are actual achievements out there such as the number of slams you've won or masters shields or whether you have the Career Grand Slam or Olympic Singles Golds etc.

As for weeks ranked #1, no man's reputation has been linked more with injuries than Rafael Nadal, so it would be a paradox if he also had more weeks ranked #1 than others.
The fact Nadal has 3 year-ending #1s is a paradox in itself (especially 2013 when he did it without even playing the AO).
If Djokovic doesn't have more year-ending #1s than Nadal then it will be bizarre given Djokovic's clean bill of health all these years.

True. Nadal was a part-time Tour player for quite a few years by now.

Based on the LIVE ATP ranking, new career highs as of tomorrow (officially):

21. David Goffin 24y
35. Nick Kyrgios 19y
36. Gilles Muller 31y
65. Malek Jaziri 31y
70. Sam Groth 27y

Let's see how high Kyrgios can climb until he turns 20 (April), and how much more room Goffin has to go upwards?
Congrats to the veterans Muller and Jaziri and I think Groth can reach the top 50 this year. There are definite improvements in his game.

Roger is a whooping 3800 points behind Novak. Novak has more than twice the points of Rafa.
The chances that Novak remains as #1 every single week of this year appears to be quite high.

I think it is normal, if you review what each of them has won in the last 52 rolling weeks. Most likely Novak will stay as # 1 until Wimbledon, completing a full 52 week leader position.

Marin Cilic absence this week will result in him dropping in the ranking to 10, pushing up Wawrinka to 8 and Ferrer to 9.

This is great news for the Man. He can probably have atleast his own quarter in IW and M
in view of this.

Rafa has barely played since Wimbledon, and he has few points to defend before that, relative to his usual. Out of five of the MS tourneys, he has only 55 points to defend. If he gets back to even near his best, this season could be a lot like 2013. In fact, already this season Rafa has more points than he had in 2013... ;)

He will not have a 2013 like season, I can bet on that.

We shall see. If Rafa stays fit this year, there's no reason to bet against him...

He will not sweep the NA summer HC events. I bet on that. Is it against him? Not really, that was an exception. Once in a career.

Given how few MS points he won last season, he can gain them elsewhere. It's not impossible that Rafa ends the season on top. Let's see him get back to his best first, that's the first step...

I thought he did the first step. I remember seeing him playing a few weeks ago:cool:

New career highs as of Feb. 16:

23. Pablo Cuevas 29y
34. Gilles Muller 31y
51. Victor Estrella Burgos 34y

Once again, just looking at their ages it seems to me more and more players do peak later in career.

Giving hope to the Tsongas, Berdychs and Ferrers of the tennis world. I would hate to see any of these three retire without a Slam of their own.

There is no way David Ferrer wins a Slam. Not only is he almost 33 (in April) but he seems to be finally slipping. He hasn't made it to the second week of a Slam since Roland Garros last year.

I'd give Berdych a slight edge over Tsonga; I could see a perfect storm scenario for both, but both are long-shots. At this point I'd probably give Nishikori, Dimitrov and Raonic a better chance, and Kyrgios is fast approaching.

I'm afraid I would have to agree with you, all except the Kyrgios part. But I will hold out hope and keep rooting for Ferdychonga to shock us all.
