Due to the removal of the points for the first 3 events of 2014, the new year starts on a positive note for several players who thus record new career highs as a consequence, without moving a finger:

29. Pablo Cuevas 28y
49. Pablo Carreno-Busta 23y
60. Diego Schwartzman 22y
65. Jiri Vesely 21y
78. Blaz Rola 24y
93. Filip Krajinovic 22y

New career highs for this week:

Fognini (again!) -- 16
Brands -- 52
Delbonis (again!) -- 63

God bless you if you are going to try to keep track of this on a weekly basis. Even just seeing a summary once in awhile is interesting. Congrats to the 3 listed above

And here is the other tradition, started by Tented, and picked up by me:)

New career highs in the first week of 2015:

41. Jack Sock 22y
58. Diego Schwartzman 22y
63. Jiri Vesely 21y

So only 3 this week, less than last week when nobody played LOL
But, nonetheless, 3 of the up and comers

Ya, looks like lot of changes in order (pun intended). Stan might go as low as 10 and
then he would not even have his own quarter. Kei or Murray seem to have better chances
of making it to #4.

David Ferrer v Kei Nishikori should be a great match ranking wise,if Ferrer wins it,he's above Cilic. If Kei wins then i think he will be 4th,unless Murray makes the Final or wins the AO.The possibilities seem endless atm,Stan has to win AO & other results go for him to hold 4th.

Forget holding on to #4, that will not happen with a high probability. My question is what does
he need to do to be in the top 8.

Hi GSM,Stan has to win matches, max points for him is 5370 if he wins AO.Even Nadal not safe @ 3rd ranking spot, possible for him to be overtook.Could Berdych beat him,my head says no,but we never know for sure.Atm,i think what could happen in the rankings makes this AO great,& interesting for many fans, whoever we like.

Hoping Daveed can out-grind Kei. That #4 ranking would be a useful bonus for Mr. Andy

Ferrer barely out-ground Simon. Kei ground him into powder. It was fun to watch.

I agree,Kei ground Ferrer into power,i was disappointed Ferrer did not make more of a fight in this one.Rankings are hotting up right now,if Andy wins next match,Stan will be below Andy whatever happens.Kei/Andy/Milos or Tomas win AO,all will over take Nadal in 3rd spot.I wonder who will end up where, makes great watching.

No matter who ends where after the AO, what is more exciting to me is that the race will be tighter than ever along the 3-8 ranking for the near future.
There will be a lot of positioning before the upcoming Masters.

I'm looking forward to next week's rankings; Nadal definitely falling well back of #3 it seems after losing in the QF of the AO! :clap :p  :dodgy: - Looks as if Nole will surpass Nadal in #1 ranking by the spring! So much for being the GOAT IMO when he's so far behind other HOF'rs with just as many majors!

So ND and RF will stay 1 and 2.

Nadal is currently 3rd but will drop behind:
- Murray or Berdych if one of them wins the tournament.

Nishikori currently 4th but will drop behind:
- Murray if he reaches the final.
- Berdych or Stan if one of them wins the tournament.

Murray currently 5th but will drop behind:
- Berdych if he reaches the final
- Stan if he wins the tournament and Murray doesn't reach the final

Whatever happens, though, it is very close between 3rd and 11th and the rankings are likely to change again before Indian Wells with most players holding a few pocketfuls of points here and there. Berdych and Nadal each have a 500 point title to defend in that time as well.
