Oh my, Rafa fans must be sweatin' it; falling way back! He could win AO (not likely) and still be far from taking back #1! Dream on!

Rafa was far back in the rankings in 2012 when he missed the 2nd half of the season and came back strong in 2013 and reclaimed #1 so even though it seems that he is far back now, it can be all made up in few months' time.

I just trust Nole will be wise next year and plan to peak at the most important tournaments - majors. I would really like him to win 2 majors next year. I will be hoping for that:D

Too bad Kei could not make it to top 4. Good for Stan though.

One step at a time:cool:

He has not even warmed up his 5th ranked chair, you now want him to jump right into the top 4. He will get there most likely by the end of January, unless Stan will be able to defend his AO title. In other words, the 4th ranking could literally fall into Kei's lap.
Stan did a good job overall at this YEC to defend his fourth pole.

Career best ranking as of Nov. 17:

25. Julien Benneteau 32y
32. Pablo Cuevas 28y
44. Adrian Mannarino 26y
79. Peter Gojowczyk 25y

Although Benneteau did not have to do anything this week to reach a new career high, it is remarkable to do that at his age, 32, closing on 33 comes December.
The others, Cuevas and Mannarino manage that based on wins on the Challeneger tour.

Surprised Benneteau has never been higher than 25.

Pretty crazy alright. Still feed bad for poor Bradley Cooper that he hasn't won an ATP title. His record in finals is atrocious. Way worse players out there than him with titles.

Worst in the Open Era, according to the ATP. At the time they noted that no one else has ever lost their first 10 singles finals.

DO you know when the rankings freeze for the season?

There are no more tournaments this year -- even the challengers and futures tours are over -- so that's it until Janurary.

I know that regular tour events are over. I was not sure about the challengers and futures.
Anyway, if all of it is over, then the current rankings would decide the entry list for AO (not the
seedings). So, we can see who made it and who missed out among the borderline folks.
104 is the cut off for regular entry.

Victor Troiki is ranked #102 and he gets in.

Filip Karanjovic, another Serb dude also gets in with a rank of 101.

James Ward of GBR did not make it.

Federer is the oldest YE world no2 since computer rank charts started in 1973.

with Federer and older players like rafa, stan, burdych, ferrer in the top10..must be one of the oldest top 10's for ages.

30. Pablo Cuevas 28y
61. Diego Schwartzman 22y

Cuevas wins the second challenger in a row and he makes the top 30 for the first time.
Schwartzman was the winner of the Challenger Tour final.

It would appear that Del Potro and his team are indeed not very clever as he never applied for protected ranking and is now ranked 138 lol. Here's hoping for more grey matter from Tommy Haas at least. :cover

We don't know for sure as to whether he applied for PR or not. For all you know, he would
have applied.

Contrary to the name, "protected ranking" does not freeze one's ranking and gives all the
benefits of that ranking. The player is guaranteed entry if the protected ranking would get him
entry into a tournament. However, the seedings are determined as per the actual rankings.
Hence, they continue to compute the rankings even if the player has applied for protected
rankings.

So, if JMDP has applied for PR when his rank was say 24 and his current ranking is 138,
he would still get entry into AO as any one in top 104 gets entry. However, he would not
get a seeded spot, as PR is used only for entry purposes and not for ranking purposes.
