Regardless of whether Nole wins it, Rafa has never defended a title off clay - and his next three big events, he's defending champ. I recommend (humbly) that he should focus on the USO and let the ratings look after themselves.

Incredible how Haas only slid four spots...

Agreed. Novak will almost certainly take the number one spot back over the American hard court season. Then the impetus switches back to him, defending a total of 4000 points in Beijing, Shanghai, Paris and Tour Finals. Rafa defending about 2000 at those tournaments in total? We'll see how the gap is after US Open.

Don't count on it! There's a reason Nadal flounders and just about disappears in the fall; totally spent! Why should this year be any different? The way he plays is terribly taxing and I feel he pretty must rests on his laurels after acquiring the FO! Why do you think he's only got 2 USO's and 1 AO? It will continue to be the same for him; patiently waiting for the clay season again! He useless the rest of the season for the most part!

I don't actually think Nadal will come back to the top of the rankings before the end of the year but if he's anywhere near Novak points-wise after the US Open the pressure is back on Djokovic with all those aforementioned points to defend, is all I was saying.

I think after Wimbledon Djokovic and Nadal defend a similar amount of points for the rest of the year. In the Race they will be rather close as well, so basically the one who does better for the rest of the season will probably end the year as number 1.

So if Djokovic stays healthy and performs at his usual level on the hard courts I like his chances to keep the top ranking at least until Indian Wells/Miami next year.

Confirmation:

Whatever happens now, Roger Federer will be world number 3 and Swiss number 1 again on Monday. Milos Raonic and Grigor Dimitrov will move to career high rankings of 6th and 9th respectively.

The only question that remains is whether Novak Djokovic can reclaim the number one spot by winning Sunday's final.

That #9 of Grigor is very crucial. With JMDP not playing, but ranked at 8, Grigor will get
a seeding of #8 in Canada Masters (and probably at Cincy and USO as well, if he maintains
the ranking).

Murray ranked at No. 10 will get a seeding of #9 and he will be looking at
draws such as the following at USO.

4th Rd: Grigor
QF: Nadal
SF: Fed
F: Novak

Guess he can kiss his chances there goodbye so unless he gets his ranking up a lot!

He's only defending 270 points in Canada and Cincinnati (combined), which presents the opportunity to gain a lot, but I don't know if he could get enough to get him up to no. 8 before the USO.

Murray won't be out of the top 8 for long, but that'd make it crazy at the USO to possibly have a round of 16 match with Murray and one of the other top guns.

As per the rules of draw, Murray will not face any of the top 4 in R16. He would face one
of the four players seeded 5 through 8 in R16 (they are currently Berdych, Raonic, Ferrer and
Dimitrov).

With Roger regaining the Swiss #1 ranking, he will get to play the first reverse singles
match in DC. As per the DC rules, on the first day #1 player of each country plays
the #2 player of other country first (the order decided by coin toss) and on the third
day, the first reverse singles is played between #1 players of both countries and
then if necessary the second reverse singles is played between #2 players of both
countries.

So, there is a good chance that the remaining DC ties will not go to full five matches
like it happened the last time against Kazaks.
