Well done to Novak for reclaiming #1 w/ yesterday's Wimbledon win: :celeb:

First Andy's delicious-looking dessert on his birthday, then Rafa's cake at RG, and now Novak's upon reclaiming No. 1.

The evidence is clear: There's a cruel cake cabal behind the scenes of the ATP. They delight in publicly presenting top players truly scrumptious desserts which they know they can't eat.

Apparently someone must be tasting it. Did you catch that missing red corner on the left side? :laydownlaughing

^One problem with situations like Kyrgios's is that one minute he is playing challengers and qualifying tournaments for every event, and the next minute he is dancing with the big boys because he has enough points to be invited to the party. That is too soon. The competition level rises too swiftly from what he is used to. And since he is not going to be seeded, every first round he is playing a top guy.

A struggle is to be expected...How he deals with it will tell us what he is made of, I think.

I agree. Carreno Busta was a revelation last year, once deep in the top 100, he had an underwhelming season so far. Nick could very well follow the same path.

One big difference is Kyrgios has one hell of a serve unlike Carreno Busta. That should makes things much easier in theory and his ground game is also excellent. Fingers crossed he'll finally be one who's here to stay and progress well.

Well I hope this kid doesn't disappear into obscurity like so many others before him after having one great performance in a major! :nono :s  We need some new blood on tour; esp. with the decline of our own Isner, Harrison, and Querrey! Is Sock good enough after taking a Wimbledon doubles title off the Bryan brothers? I haven't seen him play that much! Does he have a weapon of any sort to challenge the top echelon; serve, forehand, BDL, or volley? :nono :s

Front, I hope he will progress well, but the ground game needs a whole lot of work and it is far from excellent for now. He has to move better . And he needs to work on his fitness, which he himself said was not up to par. His serve will get him out of some trouble situations for sure though...

New career highs as of July 14:

18. Roberto Bautista Agut 26y
32. Santiago Giraldo 26y
35. Joao Sousa 25y
46. Leonardo Mayer 27y
69. Jack Sock 21y
71. Dusan Lajovic 24y
99. Sam Groth 26y

Agut is probably one of the candidates for the most improved players this this year. He is now the 3rd ranked in the Armada, after the eternal top 2 Nadal and Ferrer, which speaks for itself.
Big server Groth enters the top 100 for the first time.

Mayer is going to be on this list again on Monday. He'll crack the top 30 for the first time having reached the Hamburg final. Also, Ferrer will move back ahead of Raonic into 6th, though that has no real implications for the upcoming Masters 1000 and US Open draws.

Fognini falls to 20th, Tomic is back in the top 100, Thiem will be ranked in the top 50 for the first time and Alex Zverev will rise ~125 places to 160th-ish.

New career high at July 21:

16. R. Bautista Agut 26y
27. L. Mayer 27y
47. D. Thiem 20y
48. M. Kukushkin 26y
57. P. Carreno-Busta 23y
58. D. Lajovic 24y
65. N. Kyrgios 19y
80. B. Rola 23y
82. V. estrella Burgos 33y
92. S. Groth 26y

Very impressive by Mayer, to climb this fast and this steep at his age, by winning his maiden event a 500 which is very rare.

Good for Agut. He got the magic ranking of 16, which will give him a good seeding in USO.

Just an interesting coincidence: With Novak beginning his stint as #1 after his
Wimby win, each one of the big three have had three different stints at #1.
