Rafa stays top, but he has 4000 points to defend in the US Hards. But he has zero to defend at Wimbo, so a good run there would help his cause.

I thought Gulbis was heading into the top 10?

According to live-tennis, Gulbis is no. 10 as of tomorrow.

Murray could nip ahead of Federer if he retains his Queens title and Roger loses before the final of Halle.

The rankings could shake up again after Wimbledon too. Murray and Djokovic defending big points, Del Potro losing a lot, Rafa, Roger, Stan all picking up pretty much free points.

Congratulations to Gulbis for making his way into the top 10!

When you're mother tells you to quit tennis, you either get serious or find another occupation. Glad that Ernest rededicated himself to the game.

And of course, now he is eyeing Number 1!:lolz:

I will come back with a thread for his trajectory, because I find it fascinating to follow him,

Be ready for some severe disappointment! We haven't learned our lessons yet with Del Po, Dimintrov, Raonic, Berdych, & Janowicz! Others can be named so I'm going to have a wait and see attitude for now! I like Gulbis, but that forehand can be attacked and broken down; bad technique!

I am not sure why has been Raonic "severely disappointed" you? What were your expectations? I am actually happy with how he develops now.

So what; he's come along like a lot of players, but still hasn't won anything of significants! Just withholding judgement for now!

And that is what I was pointing to, today the players still develop into their mid twenties at least, Milos is 23 thus his development has still room to go for a few years. He is on a good trajectory right now.

New career highs as of June 9:

10. Ernests Gulbis 25y
55. Dominic Thiem 20y
63. Steve Johnson 24y
70. Alejandro Gonzalez 25y
76. Dusan Lajovic 23y
91. Rola Blaz 23y
95. Victor Estrella Burgos 33y
96. Diego Schwartzman 21y

The small Argentine Schwatzman is a newcomer in the top 100. so one more guy among the young ones.
At the top of the list the 2 training teammates, Gulbis and Thiem. The determination of Thiem made probably Gulbis more focused and inspired him to work harder. It seems to pay off.

Thiem lost badly to Goffin at Queen's today :(

I like the look of Schwartzman though, a bit like Nishikori with the way he plays, showed a really good, fearless attitude against Federer at Roland Garros too.

He deserves a pass, because it is grass. It takes a few years to master how to play on that surface. Next year I am sure he will do better.

New career high as of 16 June:

66. Jiri Vesely 20y
78. Dustin Brown 29y
92. Victor Estrella Burgos 33y
93. Diego Schwatzman 21y

A note on Vesely, after RG he returned to clay, first he won a challenger in Prostejov (defeating Stepanek in the final) and last week he reached the final in another challenger in Prague, where he lost a tight 3 setter to Rosol.

Shocking drop for JJ in particular. The guy has so much potential but has sadly been so disappointing.

I've said the same about a number of players like Raonic, Querry, and Isner and people "lost it!" :puzzled :nono I started using the term GUTLESS since so many of them have all this skill, talent, and potential, but seem to have a nice run for about a week or month, then disappear! Earnst and Grigor are the only ones I can think of that have overcome so much; including dating Sharapova, but won Queens last week! :clap

I don't think they're gutless, more a case of not consistently good enough. Remember for a long time Gulbis couldn't even win two matches back to back and his ranking plummeted. At least he's on the rise. JJ's tactics in matches just suck. Too many drop shots at the wrong time and predictable serving which is unforgivable given how big he can serve. If he cut out the excessive drop shots and started using more body serves imo he'd start winning more matches again. Raonic is definitely getting better as demonstrated by his good run at RG but his backhand sucks and needs major improvement. Isner isn't gutless but just hasn't really ever done much outside matches in the US which just won't cut it. With his serve he should've done more for himself. Yeah, Dimitrov, Gulbis and to an extent Raonic are the only ones likely to go one step further from that bunch imo. Can only hope guys like Thiem improve soon so we have some younger players at least realizing their potential as so many have lots of talent but nothing between the ears.

Some players seem afraid to win! One of the hottest players out there is Feliciano, but he's been very trying to watch, losing matches he's trying to serve out; etc.! It's been very frustrating watching him give away matches against top players; and it continues to this day! He has every shot in the book, but it does him little good!

Congratulations! Lopez finally finished; not without a little hiccup, but the 2014 Aegeon Int'l Championship is his over Richard Gasquet in 3 sets; 6-3, 6-7, 6-4! :clap :clap :clap
