Not only Rafa, but players like Murray were making slam finals and knocking off the top players so regularly, they were expected to win majors sooner rather than "eventually..."...

But things could change and players like Wawrinka could eventually win their first major at 28, right?
The next new slam major winner could be 2-3 years from now, someone from the so called "lost generation" ;)
Grigor will be only 25-26 by then...

Grigor is 23? No longer a child. I'm glad he's moving up, but he needs to giant make a spurt soon, if he's going to be a factor in the majors...

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the birthday party on court. 23. Ralf had how many titles by then??
Rafa was precocious, everybody knows that. Grigor will never come close to Nadal's accomplishments.
A year ago, at this time, Griogor was having no titles at all...

How exactly do the grass court weightings work for Wimbledon? The way I see it Murray could be seeded as high as 3rd if we assume that the French roughly follows seedings (Rafa/Nole final, Stan/Fed semis, Andy/Berdych/Ferrer in the quarters). Murray scored 2250 points on grass last year, while Stan got 160 and Roger got 245, or something like that.

Also Djokovic is likely to be top seed at Wimbledon presuming he gets to the final of Garros as Rafa ended up with 10 points on the grass last year, Djokovic 1200.

Benoit Paire took a pretty disastrous -28 hit in the rankings after Rome.

Ranking Scenario with respect to #1 after FO.

1. If Rafa wins FO, Rafa retains #1 ranking.

2. If Rafa loses to Novak in the finals, then Rafa loses the #1 ranking.

2. If Rafa loses in the finals to someone other than Novak.
Rafa retains #1 ranking if Novak loses in QF or earlier

3. If Rafa loses in the semifinals, then Rafa retains #1 if
Novak loses in third round or earlier.

4. If Rafa loses before semifinals, then Rafa loses his #1
slot to Novak even if Novak decides to stay put in
Serbia to help flood victims and not show up in Paris.

Finally, to state the obvious, no matter what happens at FO either
Rafa or Novak will be #1 at the end of FO.

Yeah, it's not fair to compare Dimitrov to Novak, Rafa, Murray or Federer at the same age. It kinda goes back to a point I've been saying about this younger generation for a while: While some are promising (like Grigor himself), we don't have the can't miss prospects. With the current top 4, we knew that something would have to go disastrously wrong for each one of them not to have a noticeable career (where they'd at least win a major. Obviously, the extent of their domination is a different issue). This is not revisionist history either. People were raving about them in their early career stages, and rightfully so. I don't see that in any of the current youngsters so it's unfair to hold them by the same standards. They're not as good. However, most tennis players aren't. What we can hope for is constant improvement.

Rose

Thiem might be one to keep an eye on. He had some great shots against Rafa, but just couldn't keep it going!

^ Yeah, very promising. He joins a long list of players though along with Nadal himself who play way too far behind the baseline on clay. Even for Nadal that strategy isn't the best as he's getting older. The few times Thiem stood up at the baseline his offense worked much better.

So Ernie is kicking some bottom over on Lenglen. If he makes the semis of RG, what will his ranking go to from 18??

You can say HELLO to your new top 10 player, the Latvian Eagle.
He will be 10th (I hope not higher, for now)

Whoa, that came out of nowhere (OK, I know that it's not quite that way, but very few saw this coming). I really hope he can string together a few decent results for at least a year, because the kid has genuine talent. And it's not the "oh he has a nice one-handed backhand" kind of talent, or even the Nishikori "he hits the ball clean but he's too small" kind of talent. He's got a huge serve, HUGE groundstrokes (a phenomenal backhand) and a great touch. He moves good too. I've never been a fan, and I frankly wouldn't be shocked if he goes on to tank because well, we've seen it before so many times with him, but I feel his skill set is significantly superior to other players in that 8 to 15 range.

:clap This tourney truly needs new blood in the final; esp. a new winner! :nono  I think it would pump up the coverage as well!

Wimbledon is a tough call because I think with Novak, Murray and Nadal you need to take into account who has been the most consistent over the last couple of years.

I would have Novak as the top seed (though it will be Nadal)
Then Murray
Nadal at three
Federer at four
Wawrinka at five
Berdych at six
Ferrer at seven

Murray seems to be gradually returning to his best. It will be interesting to see how he does at Queen's.

I just wonder about Nadal, how much will he have in reserve for Wimbledon. Not sure if he is playing at Halle, but casn he play the amount of matches he is playing and not be mentally jaded

It will be pretty simple. Wimbledon will take the world ranking and then apply their formula based on a player's grass-court form over the past 2 years. I think Novak will be the top seed. Murray will be top 4.
